What to eat/not eat before a fill?

Recommended Posts

Hello.... I was banded on May 5th and have my first fill tomorrow morning at 10:30. I was not given any pre-fill diet instructions and am wondering if I am able to eat or drink anything in the morning. I would love any advice on what has worked best for you! Thank you!

Maybe try ringing your surgeon first? My first one is this wednesday and I actually have to ring the nurse to see what if anything I'm allowed to eat before hand. Obviously stay away from a big meal before hand as that's just common sense. I think I'll probably just eat yoghurt as it'll slightly fill me up but won't be in the way I guess for when I get the fill. Good luck with everything.

I've been told just to not have a big meal two hours before a fill. My fills have been fine, so that seems to work for me.

hello, you should be able to follow a clear and full liquid diet , that is what my manual and nutrition gave me for a fill i was banded on 5/19/09. so i get my first fill on the 25th and the orders are to follow a clear and full liquid diet the first 48 hours and then back to your regular diet. :bored: sunshine girl

Well my surgeons nurse just rang and I asked him if I should postpone eating before my fill and he said not to worry about it. Sooo yeah not really informative which sucks lol. And then he was just like you'll be on a sloppy diet for like 48hours afterwards (yeah I pretty much knew that) But another thing they do at my hospital is they make you wait around for a while so you can drink something and eat something and make sure it's not tight which is good I guess.

My doctor has me on Clear Liquids 2 days before my fill. After the fill has been done - then its 2 days clear liquids, followed by 2 days mushie foods and then I can return to my normal eating routine. Works well for me cause I've finally reached my sweet spot and I don't feel hungry anymore. Who would a thunk it!

My first fill is on June 30th and I was just told nothing to eat/drink after midnight the night before. I was not given any post-fill instructions but I sure hope I can return to normal diet right after LOL... If I have to drink anymore Protein Shakes I might have to hurt someone :-).

Good luck!!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
