I am right there with ya, girlie. I was banded just this past Thursday, and OMG...I am unbelievably uncomfortable, and really no appetite at all. Like you, I am trying my best to consume at least 4 oz total of Protein Shake per day, and today 4 oz of skim milk. Other than that, I try my hardest to choke down a few spoonfuls of chicken broth and/or sugar-free Jello or sugar free popsicles. I never imagined there would a day in my life where I would be too full to finish half of a popsicle!! LOL. Hang in there...you are not alone.

I know exactly how you feel. I'm very weak but walking today. only been able to get down 1 Protein Drink a day 4 oz in morning and 4 oz in evening. sipping Water in between. Special k has Protein water in berry flavor, been sipping that all morning. Got to go walk again...

I was banded last Monday. It has been getting progressively worse with trying to consume the proper amount of Protein. Last night my stomach was upset all night. Just the thought of drinking another shake is really getting to me. I think I may have sipped my last shake too quickly. I decided to have a "shake free" day, and just my protiens from Isopure. I've switched to drinking from a 2 oz demitasse cup. Hopefully that will slow me down.

Hey guys I am right there with you, was banded June 11th. Still can't get more than a 4oz shake and some Soup down in a day. The smell of food makes me want to lose it (never thought I's say that)! I do find walking helps and did a long walk this morning, Of course now I'm going to chill and play on the computer. Hang in there I have faith it will get better. My biggest gripe is the pain where the port is but oh will.

i was banded on the 10th. i have also been nauseated to the point of not even able to drink Water. but im forcing it down. along with broth and some Protein drink. i think part of the problem is not enuf in my stomach now.

im sorry to hear u all feel as lousy as i do, but it does bring some comfort that i am not alone.

Hi guys............not sure if this helps but your feelings are right on target...it's just so important to go very very slow..right now and take the time to let your body heal..try not to get to a point where your stomach becomes too empty for too long...this will produce gas in your lower stomach and can cause nausea. Please feel free to send me an e-mail if you've got questions. Trust me when I say no question is a stupid one..I'm pretty sure I've asked them all!

Good luck and take it slow...:tongue_smilie:

thanks again to all you guys, just wondering ive been looking for things or signs i mean im doing everything right by the book but just wondering what exactly causes erosions or slippage,,and what are the warning signs..everything feels just as it did on the day of surgery by means getting better of course..

Both erosion and slippage are very rare. Don't worry yourself about it!! Slippage can happen from frequent vomiting (like daily for a long period of time) or from chronic overeating. I don't think it's really known exactly what causes erosion. If you really want to learn about problems that can occur, there is a forum about lapband complications where people post about problems they have.

Honest...JMS is right..don't worry yourself about slipage and the possible break down of the band; seriously you'll make yourself nuts..just relax and worry about getting enough protein/calories and water...remember too to excersize if you can and take your vitimins. Your body is in the healing stage and will be for 7-9 months..go slow...eat slow..chew slowly and dont' be too anxious about your results...remember your band is a tool..not a solution...good luck! :)

Sometimes reading the posts here make me wonder if some people just weren't mentally ready for WLS and needed more time with the bariatric team psychiatrist. Complaining about the limited drink/food choices early on... blah..blah...blah. The living to eat mentality really needs to go and be replaced with eating to live. JS

We have to remember that everyone moves at their own pace. For some it may be harder to adjust, people may have other factors at play that feed into the unhealthy relationship with food e.g. eating disorders, trauma. I'd hope those who you are referring to address this outside of this forum, with a professional.

This is a place to feel safe to vent, seek advice, hopefully without judgement.

Compassion goes a long way :)

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
