When can I lift stuff again and what exercise 3 days post op

Recommended Posts

I am 3 days post op and am finding it really hard not lifting as I have a 2 year old. When can I lift again?

Also, I really want to start exercising. Is walking for half hour OK? How long before I can do more intense exercise?

Your surgeon should've told you both of these things

FOR ME--that doesn't mean you also--lifting nothing more then 10lbs for 2 weeks and no ab excersizes

everyone seems to recommend as much walking as you feel comfortable doing, pretty much straight out of the hospital

I was given a lifting limit of 10 lbs for 1 week. I wasn't allowed to do more than walking for about 6 weeks. Definitely no ab exercises for quite a while. I waited about 6 months for ab exercises, but that was my personal decision.

I was told not to lift over 20lbs for 4 to 6 weeks. Im ready to do ab excerises as well. I think when i go get my 1st fill on the 29th. i will be released with no restriction.

Is it just me - But I feel fine post surgery. They kept asking me in hospital to rate it from 1 to 10. I always said 4. I asked what 10 was. If 10 was childbirth, then this post op period would be a 1 or 2. Seriously, not badly in pain. Slightly uncomfortable only. Unfortunately I have not been able to avoid lifting my 2 year old occassionally. He is 15kg (30 pound. I am trying to lift from my arms/legs (not my abs). I really hope I have not done any harm, but I have a life that needs to be lived.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
