Hi, I was banded this past Monday, June 8 in Edmond, Okla. I am very pleased with the surgery and after care. He did a great job! I arrived home home Tuesday evening and everyday I am stronger, despite the lack of food. lol

I am on a Clear liquids only diet till the 22nd. Anyone else had to be on this for 2 weeks?

I was also on it a few days before surgery. I have started experiencing headaches, dizziness, & fatigue. I am supposed to return to work on Monday & hoping I will be able to make it through the week.

Hello!!

How many days did you have to do a pre-diet? Did you have the headaches then - or just since the surgery?

I am also in Oklahoma and have only recently started my journey. My paperwork just got submitted last week and I am waiting on their response. If approved, my surgery will be done in Norman.

Is there advice you would give someone at this stage?

I believe every doctor is different. But I had to start my Clear Liquids on the 7th (the day before). I did not start getting the headaches, weakness, dizziness, or fatigue until late Wednesday into Thursday.

When I call the dr's office I was told I could add up to 3 Protein shakes a day to help with those symptoms. Find one know that you can manage. I am still hunting for one that I can tolorate. lol

So far I think I have tried at least 4 or 5 brands. I have found one wildberry that is kind of like a juice/koolaid Protein Drink that is pretty good.

I made my first outing today by myself to Walmart. About 1/2 way through I became dizzy then I realized I hadn't had a shake in awhile so I made myself one as soon as I got home.

Good luck!!!

Hey Chick and Blue, I am from Tulsa and was just banded on May 22nd. My favorite Protein Drink is EAS Myoplex lite chocolate. It is 20 grams of Protein and comes in a purple drink box. You can get it at Wallmart or nutrition stores. Everyone's taste is different though, but I hope you like it. I also like the whey Protein strawberry powder that comes in the large orange/brown container, with 21 g protein in 1 scoop. I hope we all keep in touch! GB

Hi, Tulsareal & Shay! I'm excited to find people from OK on this board - didn't seem like there were many.

I will have to try the EAS shakes. At my dietician appt, she suggested I start trying them out now to find what I like. I started with Chuke - chocolate Bliss and it's ok....but I'm just not sold on it.

With all of you just recently banded, I'd be very interested to hear your thoughts on the whole process. Any regrets? Any issues? Anything you would have done differently? I don't mean to play 20 questions - just curious. Very curious. Been lurking on here for a month or two and have learned A LOT!!

Looking forward to hearing from you!! :tongue_smilie:

I absolutely don't regret anything. I started my preop diet (Jun 1)with a weight of 217, and I'm down to 197 now (banded on Wed). It's been the best thing I could have done. It was tough to stick with the pre-op diet, but not hard at all once I had surgery. I could live without the shakes, but I'll be sticking with at least 1 a day.

I don't think I would have done anything differently. Well...maybe calmed down a bit more. I got super nervous right before surgery. That was my own fault.

Ask all the questions you want. It's how you get them answered :tongue_smilie:

This is great talking with other Okies.

Blue, I think I would also worry less. We have heard from so many people with different things happening to them & mine has gone so smoothly. I have stuck to the instructions the surgeon & dietition gave me and over all have felt great.

I did get very sick of the clear liquid phase though and felt pretty weak. I had to start making my own broths instead of boullion cubes. It tastes so much better if you boil a chicken, give the chicken to someone else and keep the juice for yourself. GB

Hi, all!!

Got a call from my insurance company today that they have received my package and it is "under review." Said they would call me as soon as a decision was made.

Thought it was very nice that they called me....odd, but very nice. Cross your fingers that it goes thru! :blushing:

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
