Shrinking Violets Part 4

Recommended Posts

We did have fun, and then sat at the lake (that runs through the mall) and watched drunk people on gondalas, and watched the sun set. I took some pics, I'll post when I get home.

I HEAR A COUNTDOWN. Let me know when it's 100% official so I can book tickets. Oh, and let us know dates we're suppose to come for.

when did you do that? I'm confused. did i miss a post??

I will make it official once I sign the contract with the venue and the church and my future brother in law aka best man aka college proffesor says that he will be free on May 15th. For right now it's up in the air on whether it's gonna be May 15th or late April because both venues i like are both booked on the following Saturday in May.

Back from our shift at the hospital and it was kind of a slow night. So we got to leave a little early. While we were there one of the regular girls is on vacation and so they brought in the part time lady. She put in her notice and will be quiting in the next 2 weeks. So the supervisor was in the dept. and they were going over the schedule and talking about hiring someone to take the place of the girl leaving. Well, you guessed it. She asked me if I would be interested in the job and she was serious about it. I laughed at first till I realized that she meant it. Hubby wasn't in the room when all of this was going on and all I could think of is that he's just going to $#%& his pants. And he just about did. After the shock of it he asked me what I thought. I have a lot to think about. Alot to think about.

Michelle, I hope you had a wonderful day.

Good evening, Violets.

Had a pretty good day today. I didn't sing for the chapel service, but did for the special occasion at the Library. My voice came out as a bass..... no NOT the fish..... but everyone seemed to like it and that's what counts.

I'm going to head to bed early again tonight and see if I can get a better night's sleep. I couldn't stop coughing last night. Ethan comes at noon and my swimming pool is FIXED and heated to 86 so we'll be doing some swimming!! I've missed doing my Water exercises.

Michelle.. I hope you had a wonderful birthday, Roomie!!

Suzie... another Violet with a new job?! Is it something that you enjoy doing? Can you still do your Curves job? Sorry the Tigers beat your guys again.

Haydee, I've been looking at wedding dresses online. Makes me think back to when Kris got her dress. We found it online and she loved it. It only had to have a minor alteration. We got a lot of her things online and that was the joke during the wedding ceremony. Bob asked her where she got her dress.. online, where did you get your gloves?... online.. where did you get your flowers?.... online.. and where did you get Nathan?? hahaha

I see that Heather posted some pictures on Facebook. Sure wish she'd post in here again. I don't know if she received the gifts I sent her. No word from her at all. ;o((

Just got a call from Joe and Ethan comes at 8 instead of noon, so I better head to bed and try and get some sleep. Coughing kept me from a good night's sleep last night plus the fact that I was worried I wouldn't be able to sing today. I had thought I'd have to read the words while the music played, but luckily I had enough voice to pull it off.

Everyone have a good evening. Sleep well.

I got almost everything online for my wedding too. The jewelry, shoes, tiara, lingerie, candles, tux, etc... I was going to get my dress online (oh man I was so in love, if I can find it again I'll show you Haydee.. it had long bell sleeves, ivory, and looked renaissancey but also looked hella expensive, whatever designer it is we don't have here!!) till we swapped to a last minute wedding, then I had to get what was on the rack at David's Bridal, and I was a bit bummed because I was post-surgery by a few months and had hoped to miraculously NOT be in a size 26 at my wedding.. oh well.

Sometimes reading the posts here make me wonder if some people just weren't mentally ready for WLS and needed more time with the bariatric team psychiatrist. Complaining about the limited drink/food choices early on... blah..blah...blah. The living to eat mentality really needs to go and be replaced with eating to live. JS

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
