Shrinking Violets Part 4

Recommended Posts

So, I get back from taking care of my sister only to get 3 calls telling me that my nephew has been in his second accident in one week. I'm off to the ER now to see what is going on. Neither of his parents can make it so it is up to my younger sis and I to take care of the 3 kids. No wonder I never had any. I'm too busy taking care of everyone else's.

I'll post later when I get back.

Very stressful around here.

Anyone got any chocolate? ???????????

Suzanne, I think you need chocolate covered Valium right about now!! OMG I cannot believe how busy you stay!!!

Tracy, good luck with the dsd situation, divorce is difficult at best and horrid most of the time. I hope all works out well with her living with you, I have to be honest, and say at this point in my life, I do not want a teenager!!! I just got a call a few minutes ago from the closest thing I have to a teenager---Megan! She come to me when she was 5 and a half weeks old, and stayed with me til she was entering high school!! It began as simple daycare, and by the time she could talk, she stayed with me as many nights as she left and went home. Even when she no longer come for day care, she walked down during lunch or after school a couple of times a week. I was her legal guardian if anything should happen to her parents. She was like my own, I love her dearly....BUT......now she wants me to take her for her driving test Thursday. I refuse, she cannot be that old...that makes me that much older. And I thought she loved me back!!! Yeah, yeah, yeah.... I am taking her Thursday at 10. Then we are going to have an early lunch. Her Mom has no idea what she is missing. I am willing to take time off to do this with her---I always went to her school programs, even to her back to school nights, because her Mom was either working or tired. Half her teachers through time, thought I WAS her Mom! And now she wants to drive....ay yi yi! Rick is looking for a good used car, her Dad ask us to keep an eye open, and he has a good lead on a little Honda, so maybe she will be driving for real soon!!! The last of "my" babies, and now it will be grandkids growing up too fast!

Sorry Carson is sick Laura! Poor Darling!!! Hope it is short in duration.

I guess we are meeting with all the kids (and Manda's new guy) and doing the big city Fireworks program tonight. They always do it on the 3rd, then there are several smaller ones on the 4th and it leaves you free to be with family. We are talking about driving up to Silverton. All you girls talking about Colorado would LOVE this place. You can stand in downtown Silverton and look around and see 7 different 14,000 foot mountains. And you can take jeep trips into most of them! It is an old silver mining town, and very historic, lots of mining still goes on. I have a cousin who owns a mine up there!! Anyway they have a big fireworks show too--so we are going with Becky & Gary to see them. Over 3 mountain passes to get there, and it is less than a 100 miles away! It is a climb!

Everyone be safe----will be back in when time allows. Suzanne hope all your family is well.

Thoughtful words on this Independence Day:

"Hello America,

Here it is, another Fourth of July. Traditionally, this is a day to gather with friends, maybe fire up the barbeque and play with kids until the sun sets and the fireworks start. But in thinking back on the meaning behind this day, we must never forget that our nation was baptized in the blaze of a very different kind of "fireworks." Yes, this is a day of rest and relaxation, as well it should be, but this year…I'd like to ask you a favor. At some point during the day, I hope you'll take time to think and reflect on what it is we're truly celebrating on the 4th of July -- our Independence Day. Of course the Declaration of Independence was signed on July 4th, 1776 but it's so much more than that. On this day, 233 short years ago, a small group of men dedicated themselves to a higher purpose, an ideal they believed in so greatly, they signed their name to its expression and in doing so put their very lives at risk.

Never has a simple act of signing one's name carried such weight, such a profound commitment. By signing the Declaration of Independence, 56 men stood in direct defiance of the British government. They became marked men, and willingly so. As I was doing some research on the significance of July 4th, I came across some interesting facts about these men. Today as we all enjoy the freedom our forefathers guaranteed us, join me in honoring the extraordinary sacrifice of 56 extraordinary Americans.

Of the 56 men who signed the Declaration of Independence:

Five were captured by the British as traitors, and tortured before they died. Twelve had their homes burned to the ground. Two lost sons serving in the Revolutionary Army, and two more had sons captured. Nine fought and died in the Revolutionary War.

If you ever feel like your lone voice can never be heard, that the political system isn't set up for "regular" Americans to change the course of history, remember: The signers were flesh and blood, mortal men with a divinely-inspired aim.

Twenty-four were lawyers and jurists, eleven were merchants, and nine were farmers and large plantation owners. They were well educated, smart enough to know that by signing the Declaration of Independence, they were signing their own death warrants. They did it anyway, and God bless them for it.

As we enjoy our liberty on this 4th of July, or any day of any month, we must never take that liberty for granted. Too many have given too much. In the words of the Signers themselves, "For the support of this declaration, with firm reliance on the protection of the divine providence, we mutually pledge to each other, our lives, our fortunes, and our sacred honor."

Their lives, their fortunes, and their sacred honor -- I think that's a price paid worth a few minutes of reflection, don't you? But let's not be solemn in that reflection. I say rejoice and share this information with your friends and family, especially your kids. The Signers asked for nothing in return for their pledge, but I say that we show our thanks with a pledge of our own: To remember, to be grateful, and to carry on in their spirit. America is the greatest country this world has ever and will ever know, and it will stay that way so long as "we the people" remember that just like in 1776.

It's US that surrounds them, and we'll never back down.

Happy Independence Day, and God bless America."

Good morning, Violets..

Just popping in before we leave for the parade and the Maritime Festival with the grandkids.

Hope everyone has a relaxing day with family. We finally have some sunshine!! At least that's what I think it is, it's been sooooo long here. Supposed to get up to 75 degrees. It's been in the low 60's since I got back from Alabama. Certainly not a typical summer.

The heat exchanger is not fixed on the pool heater yet and we can't run the pump cause it leaks Water into the heater, so I'm not a happy camper. The grandkids were looking forward to swimming in the nice, warm pool. With temps in the 60's during the day and 40's at night the water that's still in the pool is dang cold. grrrrrrrr

Off to the parade.... Everyone make it a good one!!

What I wouldn't give for a 60 degree high right now....

Kinda like how people with straight hair want curly hair and the girls with curly hair buy flat irons....LOL

Today is a great day.... Right now I'm looking at my son, girlfriend, daughter and dog...all cuddled up and watching "Jaws". DH and I are getting steaks ready for the grill.

Life is good. All is well.

Michelle - thanks for the post. I wonder if there is a man among us who has 1/100th of the courage of any one of those honorable and intelligent men. Sigh. And if there are...I wish they'd show up soon.

Awwww, Terry that sounds so nice. Glad you finally get a Happy day.

Laura, So glad you liked the clothes. I had a hard time find anything elephant. But hope those do.

I got to the hospital yesterday and they decided to keep him over night. They wanted to make sure that he didn't fall or pass out again. So guess who got to spend the night with him? Yup, your'e right. They had a very comfortable cot in there but the room was 72 degrees and I froze all night long. I had to get up 3 times during the night to go potty and it was all the way down the hall. Doc came in around 10:30 and released him but it wasn't till around noon that we got out. I called hubby nad he left right away to come and get us but the hospital they took him to was 45 minutes away. I got home and had to get the spare room ready for him because he is now living with us for awhile(can you hear how happy I am?) Than I had to take a shower, get dressed and get to church because it was my night to work.

Came home and started getting food ready for everyone to eat. One saving grace, my Aunt called and said the they weren't coming out and would probably see us tomorrow.

I finally have about 30 minutes to myself and wanted to come here and wish you all a very Happy 4th.

Stay safe and have a great time.

:smile2: Happy 4th. :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
