Hello!

I am seriously new here...

I attended a seminar last week, found out my insurance will not pay, and now I have decided to get financing.

I have an appointment with the surgeon next week and am hoping that I wont be scared off by reading all these threads about the band not working...especially because I don't want to be in debt for nothing!!! ;-)

So, anyone who's had success and would like to give me a little encouragement, it would be much appreciated!

I know what you mean about all the scary posts on here. It can be very discouraging. I haven't been banded long, but, so far so good. I also was a self-pay. Don't let all the posts freak you out. I figure it's like anything...people are more likely to be vocal if they're complaining. While their complaints may be valid, there are hundreds of others who you don't hear from that are having a wonderful experience with the band. Good luck.

Ash:

April 2007 weighed 324. Banded July 2007. Weight this morning 184. 140 pounds down. Sounds like inspiration to me.

I think it's good to come here and be informed by the members, but some people seem to get very carried away with the negative.

My only regret is that I didn't do it sooner.

I love my band and my new, flat tummy (tummy tuck May 2009).

Best wishes to you with your band.

Sue

Hi and welcome!! While I was waiting for my surgery date, I spent a lot of time here. It is true that there are a lot of posts from people who have just had surgery and are experiencing the normal after surgery aches and pains. I had my surgery done in September 2008 and I've lost 75 pounds since August 08. No complications - I feel GREAT!!!!!! Try to focus on the success stories (although it is good to know the good, the bad, and the ugly) and keep in mind why you are doing this. I was self pay too. The time from my initial consultation to my surgery day was only about a month. Good luck to you. Let me know if I can help you in any way. Take care. Becky

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
