New bandland resident

Recommended Posts

I am now a resident of Bandland! My surgery went great. Don't remember a thing except waking up to a beeping noise.

Quick question- did anyone have trouble burping afterwards? I'm still sore at the top of my abdomen, and before I left, the nurses kept telling me it was gas, so I haven't taken any liquid Tylenol. Is it OK to go ahead and take a chewable gas-x now or do I need to wait?

I wouldn't think the Gas-X would be a problem, but if you're on any other medications you may want to check with your doctor first. It might be a good idea all the way around to check with the doctors office, a nurse should be able to answer your question. I don't recall having any kind of discomfort other than where the port was put in, but it has been a few years since mine was done so you can't go by me.

Hope this helps, keep us posted as to how things go.

Cindy

Welcome to bandland. It is okay to take gas-x. I started on gas-x the same day of surgery. The gas pains was the worest thing about the surgery. It wil get better everyday.

Welcome to Bandland Cissy. I would think it would be OK too but you should check with your doc to make sure.

I just got banded two weeks ago and the gas was the worst the first couple weeks. It's getting much better now! ;) I chewed as much Gas-X as the package said I could, it really helped a lot.

Hey Christi, Welcome to bandland - I just arrived on the 12th and today is the first day that I have had a problem with gas - I personally find that walking is breaking it up and getting it out better than the gas-x.

Good luck,

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
