I was banded 2 weeks ago. I am Roman Catholic and would like to take Holy Communion. Have any of you on the May 09 forum taken the Communion wafer yet? and how soon after being banded? (some of them aren't thin)

Hi there, I was banded May 20th and took communion for the first time since surgery this past Sunday June 7th. I didn't have any problems with it at all!

Aaaahhh! That is so good to hear, carrie.

It occurred to me also that I could always ask the EEM for a portion too, but I didn't want to bring attention to myself by stalling the line. I will give it a try and take your example as encouragement.

Are you looking forwrd to getting your first fill?

I was going to ask for a portion too but didn't want to draw attention either! I was SO nervous, but once I took it, I just kind of let it sit there in my mouth for awhile. But it did go down fine, so don't worry! I'm sure it'll be the same for you. I was so relieved once I took it. I hated not being able to the previous weeks. I was offered it in the hospital and wanted it desperately but the nurse said no.

I can't wait for my first fill! I really really hope it helps! How are things going for you?!?

Things are going well. I came off the all liquids yesterday and am now in the mushies stage. I have only lost 18 lbs since my effort beginning 2 weeks before my band until now, but I am pleased. I have NEVER before been able to lose weight like that..above 5 lbs and then regaining them.

My age has a lot to do with it too, though..I will be 60 in a few days.

Well it sounds like you are doing great! 18 pounds is alot. I know what you mean though, losing 5 here and then gaining it back. Never again for us! We're going to keep it off!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
