sleeping with the band? and a liquid question

Recommended Posts

i was banded 6/10 and and the past couple nights i've been sleeping on my back because of the band. Could sleeping on your side or stomach hurt the band or cause it to slip? Also is it normal when you sip fluids the first couple days that it hurts going down where the band is?

Hi, I was banded on April 15th and when I went to my 3 weeks post op appt on May 11th I asked the question, could I sleep on my stomach. The dr told me yes, I tried to but I didn't feel comfortable. So I just sleep on my side and my back..

I was banded the day before you 6/9 congrats. I can sleep on my right side, port is on left, and it is very comfy, i do put a pillow under me though. i am not a back sleeper and once i moved for the first time in the hospital out of bed, I could not get back in the comfy position i had been in for many hours. I asked the surgeon the next morning, and he said that sleeping on right side wouldn't be a problem, while left side might hurt a little bit still. So far the only incision that hurts is the port incision, and I am feeling pretty good.

If you can sleep comfortably on your side, there shouldn't be an problems! I have slept on my side since day 2 post op because I have a pinched nerve that prevents me from sleeping on my back. My doc said it was fine! Best of luck to you!!!

I was banded on the 10th (wed) and I can sleep on my right side, but if I have a body pillow. I use it to kind of support me. I lay half on it. Laying on my left side is just uncomfortable and I hate sleeping on my back.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
