Eating too fast or eating too much?

Recommended Posts

I'm confused as to why I'm having so many problems with getting stuck and pbing. I had a fill about 2 weeks ago. This was only my second fill. He put in about 1 cc which put me up to around 4 cc's. He never tells me exactly how much, just says around 4 cc's. I could tell a difference right away after this fill. When I drank liquids, I could only drink about half a cup at first. I even pb'ed on my medications, espically my Vitamin D supplement. This had never happened before. After about 4 days though, it seemed to get better. Now I only get stuck and pb occasionally. I'm not sure if I'm feeling this tightness, pain etc because I'm not chewing properly or because I'm getting too full(eating too much food). I went out with a friend to a mexican resturant the other night. I ended up spending about half the meal in the bathroom pbing. It was awful. I ordered a grilled chicken with some grilled onions, peppers etc on top. Before the meal came, I did eat a few chips with salsa. Then after about 2 bites of my meal, I started feeling that awful feeling. I went to the br and pbed. I went back to the table. I didn't eat anything else but started feeling it again. Finally after doing this 3 times, I felt better. Weird thing is that I never felt that satisfied full feeling. I felt the pressure, pain but I still felt hungry. When you get good restriction do you feel satisfied like you did preband or do you stop because of the pressure, pain, etc? Or do you think I'm just not chewing properly or eating too fast? Thanks.

I would make sure you are eating smallllllllllll bites and chewing slowly. If you are still experiencing problems after that then I would call your doc and get a slight unfill, you could perhaps be too tight. Good luck to you! I hope everything gets better.

Jill,

That sounds exactly like me. I had a fill on May 13th and it was pretty tight after about a week I thought it was getting better but if I didnt take the smallest bites and chew I got stuck. After 3 weeks like that I couldnt stand it anymore and I got 1cc taken out. Im now a 5cc and still have decent restriction. I didnt want to jepordize my band by pb all the time and risk slippage so I called the dr. It seemed to me that it wasnt worth it to get stuck at every meal even though I was losing decent weight.

Good luck to you and I hope you figure it out.

In response to the question regarding feeling the same sense of satisfaction after eating as you did pre-band. I can answer that with a definite NO. I stop eating either because of pressure or pain or the portion size i have doled out is gone.

Thank you for anwsering this. I think it is possible that I am overfilling and then getting sick because of that.

Jill, most overweight people have a history of eating fast. That means they don't chew their food well enough and, even worse, they have eaten right past "full" so many times that they forget what it really feels like. We know "stuffed" really, really well. "Full" not so much, LOL. Try keeping your meals to no more than a 1 cup of food. Cut things into bites no bigger than a nickel. Take a bite, put down your fork, and CHEW. If it's drier texture foods (some meats are dry), a tiny bit of Water can help you break it down. (I know, we're not supposed to drink with meals, but a small sip can help you adequately chew (especially meats) and I don't feel that that has prevented me from staying full.) Then swallow. Then take another bite. Somewhere along the way, you're not going to feel so hungry anymore. Then pay close attention. Some people burp, some people hicccup, some people feel pressure. "Full" doesn't feel exactly the same for everybody. I feel pressure. If I eat past that, and I have, I get stuck and PB.

i'm just over a yr post op and i've lost about 65 lbs. which is great. i haven't had a fill since july. but lately, it seems like everything gets stuck. i know i don't take small enough bites. but i find that so hard. i've had to vomit alot lately and i'm worried about slipping my band. it seems like i'm more addicted to food now than before. and before i was just a plain old overeater. i'm afraid if i have an unfill, i'll gain back some weight. that's a bigger fear than a slippage, although that's not logical. i know.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
