I just checked my referral online(Tricare). Well it is still pending review. But I see that the doc put in to take a wedge of my liver for biopsy. What is that for? He never said anything about that. Anyway, Tricare denied it. The reason was because it was an Inappropriate Place of Service. I sure do hope he will still do the surgery. I will have to call them and find out.....CRAP...hopefully it's not another hurdle. Jennifer

Not ALL that unusual. The liver is an important component of this whole process, and they need to make sure that it's in good condition. There have been a few people i know that have actually gone into surgery, and then it was decided in the OR that the band would not be installed, because an existing "Fatty Liver" condition.

Myself, I had a Liver Biopsy DURING my lap Band installation, because I had hepatitis B many years ago, and one of the specialists wanted to take the surgical opportunity to make sure it was in good condition.

Head hunter, got it exactly right! Maybe your surgeon did it as a percaution to see if your liver would be difficult during your lapband surgery. Anywhoo, hope you get your answer soon.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
