I have a really silly question....my stomach is growling but the sound is different then prior to my banding. Is that normal? It has kinda a hollow sound!! I feel just a tad bit hungry. This is my third day post op Clear Liquids only. But counting my three days pre-op that is 6 days on clear liquid! Never in a million years did I think I could do somethig like that!!

Anyway, the 2nd thing is what "exactly" can you have on full liquids? ? I know I can have the Protein Drinks and everyting I had on the clear liquid but can I add sugar free puddings, V-8 juice? ? I feel like a real dope not knowing what is considered full liquids. My doctor does not want us to do Soups and yogurt at this stage. But what about home made smoothies? ?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks

Your stomach growling may be just gas, I had a lot after surgery and took generic gas-x for about 3 weeks afterwards, and it may be just hunger. If you were like me, I didn't know what hungry felt like, and very seldom do i now and I have been banded 2 years. I do not get the stomach rumbling for food even if I don't eat for 10 or 12 hours, so maybe I don't have that gene-haha.

Liquids means anything you can blend up to creamy, unless they said clear liquid, then you want to stick with broth and clear Soups, just no chicken with rice or vegetable Soup unless it is pureed. I bought some flavored Protein drinks that had 20 grams at the health food store, weren't great, but got me through the first few weeks.

Felt much better yesterday then I do today. Still have the gas pain in my upper back and shoulders but it seems to have moved around to the front also. Is that possible?? How long does it usually take for that gas bubble to go away?? Am using the Gas X strips every now and then. I feel like I have to belch but so far only little ones. I would love to let out with one of those huge, loud ones about now!!!!

Still on clear liquid for today. Tomorrow starts the full liquid. I am going to get some Soup from Panera's bread Company and blend it real week for lunch tomorrow!! Cream of Wheat for Breakfast. I was told it is a good idea to plan your meals at least for the first couple of weeks and stick to it. So I'll give it a try!!

Thanks for your response.

The way my doctor and nutritionist explained "full liquids" to me was anything pourable or able to go through a straw (except, without the straw of course). I'm also in that stage right now. One suggestion I was given was to try egg drop Soup. I went yesterday and got some, brought it home and threw it in the blender and it was wonderful! Plus, the egg is a way to get in some extra protein!

About how long does the gas pains stay?? I am about tired of them now!!! Walked around the yard a couple times so far this morning. Can't stay out too long the mosquitos are bad here in Florida this year!! We have had rain almost daily for a few weeks!! When the sun comes out they go away but then it is to hot to walk!! I know....stop whinning and do what you have to do!!! So back to walking around the house. The funny thing is when I do that my dogs follow me for as long as I am walking!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
