Need advise

Ok, so I have had 4 fills and was at 6cc in a 10cc band. I was almost at my sweet spot. I went on my 9 month appointment and told the doc I was almost at my restriction. He said good and then he gave me a 1cc fill. I drank a cup of Water and things were fine. Day and a half later I couldnt even swallow my own spit with out PBing. Ofcorse it was a friday and I had to work all weekend, I didnt want to get really sick so I called the doc's office. They had me come in, I was seen by a diffrent doc. I told her if she would just take out .5cc that it would help. I didnt see how much she took out she told me it was just .5cc. but she had a hard time getting into the port. And now I have no restriction at all! Is it possible that she could have broke the tip of the neddle off in the port and it floated into the band and put a hole in it? Or do you think she just took alot more then .5cc's out?mad.gif

I think odds are she took the .5 cc out exactly as she said. The odds of your scenario happening are not likely, and would of course be malpractice. Often as we get close to the green zone just a little makes a big difference. Make an appt with your surgeon to get some put back in.

I agree with Monkey. I am finally at my sweet spot and it took just the tiniest fill to get me there. I have 5.75cc in a 10 cc band. I had had to have .25cc taken out (I was at 6cc after a .75cc fill) because I was too full. When we get close to the sweet spot it is a matter of fine tuning and you may need a bit added back in.

I would agree that its fine tuning but I had restriction before just not as much as I would have liked, and now I dont have any what so ever so thats my problem.

.5 is a lot in a 10cc band. I've had a huge difference with very small amounts. When I went for my second fill, I couldn't drink the cup of Water, so the doc took out .2 and everything was fine.

It amazes me how such a tiny amount of Fluid can have such a profound impact. But everyone is different and it seems to me every fill is different. I didn't notice any restriction after my last one for 2 weeks, then suddenly I was at my sweet spot for over a month.

Thank you for your post! it seems the all alusive "sweet spot" Is the big goal. What are some sure sign indicators you have hit it? Are you only able to drink liquids and eat mushies? Of is real food allowed. I am going in for my fill tomarrow. It hopefully will go well and it will be my first so I am wondering will it be kindof like I fill until can just drink then when my body looses up again I fill again, over and over until my body has found a place where it wont loosen up.

Is this in out field????

I agree that she probably only took out what she said... you were soooo tight and it has had a chance to relax a little.

I dont know about anyone else, but it seems it takes two weeks or so for a fill to level out. After the two weeks, it is pretty well set.

No, you should be able to eat real food. Your weight loss will stall if you cannot. You should not be able to eat a massive amount but it should be real food. You just need to be sure to take small bites and chew really really well. I have found that fish and shrimp are my main sources of Protein now. I have trouble with chicken if it is not super moist.

I then add in some veggies, usually steamed broccoli and after that a bit of starch, cheesy mashed potatoes are my fav.

I also eat a bunch of fruits (eating watermelon right now) BUT must chew chew chew or up it will come.

I have steered away from anything processed except an occasional chocolate milk shake. Just being honest on that one. I have been limiting myself to one per week on a high stress day. chocolate fixes everything for me. :biggrin: It takes all the stress away.

Anyway, fresh is the way to go if you at all can. It keeps the sodium down along with all the other funky chemicals they add.

Back to the original subject, you DO need to be able to eat more than liquids and mushies, just probably not the first few days after a fill.

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
