Am I on the right track?

Recommended Posts

I was banded on 5/28/09 and have lost 12 pounds since surgery. 10 pounds of that was after the first week and this week I've only lost 2 pounds. I'm still on liquids for 3 more weeks and then can move on to soft foods. I do have a hard time getting all my Water in for the day and can sometimes only get in one Protein Shake. I just want to know if a slowed weight loss is normal at this stage? I feel like I should be losing more, but maybe I'm expecting too much?

Any insight and/or tips would be greatly appreciated since I'm so new to this! :ihih:

Thanks!

Hi there wsu girl. Sounds like you're doing fine to me. We're all different, and we all lose at different rates. Just keep following your doc's orders .

We've all read on here about those people who lose a great amount of weight right after surgery, but the reality is that most of us will lose and gain the same few pounds, or even gain a bit before the first fill, so you are doing great!!! Hang in there and stick with what your doctor has told you to eat. Once you start getting fills the weight loss will come easier. Give your body time to heal and adjust before expecting too much from it.

If I had any advice for you it would be to try to get in more Protein shakes - your body really needs it!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
