My fingers are crossed and papers are in the mail

I just sent off my packet today to the Hospital who will in turn send it to my insurance for approval. Any of you out there that believe in prayer and know what a difference this band has made or will make for you, please remember me when you say your prayers. I really need this and I know that this will give me my life back. I have found such support on this board, I would be devastated if I get denied. I have a really big trip our first family vacation since my mother passed away 6 years ago. This will be the first time im really just gonna allow my self to enjoy a vacation and even enjoy being a part of every picture that is taken so that I will have plenty of before pics because the after is gonna blow your socks off. I'm truly ready to work my band and follow the regiment that i will need to, to obtain the life i want and know that i deserve but I know that I will need help from my new best friend "Band-ella," (at least thats what I think will name her.) SO once agian if i ever needed the help of a complete stranger in my life it is now. i need all good vibes, prayers, and just geniune support sent my way:) i have only told my HUBBY, my 2 brothers and 1 really good girl friend. I feel that I have enough of a support system here on the boards and with them that I will do just fine:) TIA have a great nihgt

Congrats, I too am waiting for approval. It has only been submitted for 2 days but I sure do hope it isn't much longer. I swear I am driving myself crazy. I hope we both get approved soon. I will keep you in prayer, please remember me in yours. Jennifer

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. I had surgery May 26 2009 and it wasn't easy to get Aetna to approve it. I had to do a 1200 cal diet with exercise for 3 months before I got approval. I also had to meet with a nutritionist as well as my PCP monthly. The good news is that I was so motivated to get the band that I lost 48 lbs before I had the surgery. In the Dallas area I used TLC Edge and they handled all the insurance approval paperwork. If it wasn't for them i'm certain I would have never been approved.

Good Luck!

You will definetly be in my prayers! I just attended the seminar yesterday...and was a bit discouraged that my first appointment with the surgeon can not be until next month....Why such the long wait?

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
