Is anyone out there experiencing IBS systems? It's been 10 years since I dealt with this and I'm wondering if I'm all alone?

Great question! I have IBS, and I have wondered what effect the band might have.

I have had IBS all my life. I was also worried that the band would make it worse. But it is actually better. I still have some diarrhea and Constipation, but I feel great otherwise.

I seem to have less flare ups now than I used to. But I did have a pretty bad one a few months ago. But I don't think it was band related.

My IBS has actually gotten better since being banded. I no longer am eating inappropriate foods and feel better since exercising daily. I also have cut back to my meds to use only as needed instead of daily.

I was banded this past January and have had 4 IBS flare-ups with each one getting a little more painful. But I also have severe diverticulosis, so not sure if it is the band causing more problems or not?????? I did ask my surgeon before the surgery about the diverticulosis/IBS becoming worse and he said, there has been no studies done on this issue.:ihih:

I was told right at 4 years ago that I have IBS and was banded in August of 2008. I have noticed that since I got my band, my symptoms have gotten alot better.

So, for those of you whose symptoms have improved, to which end of the spectrum did you tend to fall? I tend to have diarrhea episodes far more often that the Constipation side. Should I expect that to improve?

hi everyone,

i also have ibs.............years ago i would go between Constipation and diarrhea...........but the last 10 years it has been all diarrhea, there is not a day goes bye that i do not go anywhere from 5 to 10 times daily. (SHOULD BE SKINNY LOL). i was banded april 20th and have seen very little difference in my diarrhea, if anything it has gotten a little better, but not much.

my doctors tell me i am one of the worse cases they have ever seen.

i always thought it was things i ate, but now that i eat very little it is still there...........

anyway good luck everyone.

I always thought it was stress related. At least, that's how it always affected me.

I can't speak for anyone else, but as for myself, since I have been banded, I don't have diarrhea anymore, I don't have those sudden strong urges to poop but maybe 2 times a month, and I haven't had the pain that I use to have. I'm not actually sure if the band has anything to do with these changes, but maybe it does. All I know is that my IBS is so much more under control since I have had my band. Hopefully your symptoms will improve over time with your band.

I used to have diarrhea all the time before being banded, but now it seems I have Constipation. It goes back and forth now. I'm sure it has a lot to do with diet changes.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
