"You are turning into the incredible shrinking woman!"

Can I yell it louder?

YAHOO!!!

The first woman colleague to notice and comment on my 55 lb weight loss! Today! She came into my office, and said, hey, you are the incredible shrinking woman! What are you doing?

I have had only a handful of people say anything to me, and I am sort of ok with that, but let me tell you, today, this put me on cloud nine!

Just needed to share. I am coming up on my 5 month bandaversary and the encouragement comes at a great time!

I also am thrilled, as I ran a 10K this last weekend, and finished strong!

Life is good, and the Band is what is helping make it oh so much better for me!

Congrats, I know how good that feels. It amazes me when you are heavy to start with how much you have to lose before someone notices. Keep up the good work.

Wow- way to go. You ran a 10K?? Can I ask you at what point in your weightloss you started running? How did you train for the 10K. I am really interested in starting to run and would appreciate any advice or tips you might have- one major hurdle is getting the confidence to do it even though I still feel very heavy!

Contemplating,

Yes, I ran and finished a 10k - I ran 11 minute miles. I'll share a few things. I was a runner pre children, and although a heavy runner ( not heavy like after children, but heavy) I was very strong and consistent and ran and finished 6 NYC Marathons 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999 - yup, each one- 26.2 miles. Finished each between 4 hrs 30 minutes and 4 hrs 50 minutes. Fast forward to this weekend...

Hadn't run a 10k in 8 years. Only started running again in March. Had surgery early Jan and started at the gym 6 weeks later, using the eliptical and the bicycle for most of the time, then got the guts to get on the tread mill and started. I basically ( as I did in the past) run for a set amount of time, not for a set amount of miles. I cover the display board, as it makes me crazy. I ran a 5k about a month ago, and realized, heck, I need to get off the treadmill and on the streets! Such a different work out between running outside and running on a tread mill. Both good, but oh so different.

As for where I am in my weight loss - well, I am about 1/2 way there. I know the running is helping me reach my goal, and I feel great. I do feel shy sometimes, but, you know, I do figure that I am at least trying to do something about my weight, and if someone wants to make fun of me while running, then it is clear who has a problem!

Start slow, buy good running shoes and make sure not to run every day at first.

Good luck and feel free to write anytime.

I am so pumped up that I have signed up for a September 1/2 marathon! I can do this!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
