Introduction and looking for feedback

Recommended Posts

Howdy! I am 30, 5'6" and 320#. I am meeting with TLCEdge solutions in Plano, Texas tonight for a one on one informational seminar.

I'm looking for feedback. Does anyone regret getting the lap-band? Any horror stories? Does it work? Do you really have to give up Coke?

I'm scared and not sure what to do, but I am tired of feeling fat and unattractive.

If you read through this site you will find some horror stories but the majority of us have had great success and are happy we had the surgery. Yes, it works but it is not a magic cure. You have to do the work. Follow your doctor's orders. You will find that many doctors have different opinions and restrictions. This is a tool that will help you feel full and start a healthy life style. As you read you will find you can eat around the band ( ice cream candy etc) that will go through easily. That is a challenge for some people. The answer to Coke, ( I assume you mean the drink  varies. Now if you are talking sugar soda you should never drink it again. As for other carbonated drinks some doctors say yes after 6 months, like mine did, some say never. It can make you very gassy. I had a big diet soda habit before surgery. After giving it up for 6 months I find I do not crave it. While I will have some once in a great while I find I can not drink canned or bottled because of the gas, however, fountain soda does not bother me. Everyone is different and so are their doctors. For me it was the best thing I have ever done! I wish you much luck and great success on your journey!

Thanks so much for your feedback. And yes, I did mean the beverage coke. :)

I know I need to do the work and am not looking for a quick fix...I want hope and help. This board seems to be a fantastic source of both.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
