I am hoping - fingers crossed - to get banded in July. Very excited at the prospect of having the lap band - but - I am originally from New Orleans and LOVE spicy foods. Have you all had to give them up completely? Has anyone been able to tolerate "heat"? Thanks in advance for your responses!

I live in S. Texas. Of course you don't have to give up spicy foods!

I was banded 3/26/09.....I have not found anything yet that hasn't agreed with me (not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing).

As a longer term bandster, I'll tell you that I LOVE hot foods... and I am loving them even more post-banding. No issues here...

I agree, I love spicy food all the time and hotter than pre-band. They also fixed my hiatal hernia during surgery, so I think that may have something to do with it as well.

WOW! MAN!! Am I the only one that when I eat something spicy I get sick? I can't even eat a taco without it bothering me now. I guess I have to be the black sheep of the banding family huh? OH WELL, I am still loving loving loving my band!!

I have no trouble with any spicy food. I use salsa and hot sauce in my eggs, I add chili oil and peppers to my chinese food, I eat blackened catfish.

I love cajun food.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
