Drinking before and After meals.

Recommended Posts

So what did everyone's surgeon give them for the drinking rule? Mine has the 30/30 rule. No drinks 30 minutes before or 30 minutes after. The 30 after I am not having a problem with (well I freaking hate it but I can do it:glare:) It is the 30 minutes before. I always have a water bottle near, so I forget and then take a sip and then ten seconds later think "Oh crap I am going to eat in a minute." ARRRRGH What does everyone else do?

My Doc's rule is 5 min before or 25 min after. I find it hard to wait 25 minutes after a meal.

I've been doing what John's been doing, 5 to 10 mins before I eat I take a heaping gulp of beverage, and then 25-30 mins later I will take a normal drink... I usually get up and walk around a bit after I eat just to ensure things don't sit there and to distract myself and pass time. I also look at the clock to see what time I stopped eating this way by the time I'm done being the energizer bunny, It's time to take a drink.

My doctor has the 30/30 rule also. I am ok before, but after it's a killer! I am one who was addicted to soda, and had one with my meals. Now I can't even drink Water with my meals, and it's hard to get used to, but I'm doing it. Went to a friends on Saturday night, had a few healthy Snacks, but was dying for something to drink, but had to wait the 30 stinkin minutes.

I'm the coca-cola kid, has a sip last night, and it KILLED ME.

it was like a teaspoons worth, GAS, BLOATING and shooting pains in my side, I immediatly drank like 2 glasses of Water just to dilute it, ended up taking a pepsid and a tums just to calm my stomach down, and then I got really hungry (This is after I ate dinner) to the point I was dry heaving if I didn't eat soon.

My doc told me to do 30/60. If I'm really dying for a drink, he said 30/45. But if you look on the Lap Band website, they say 60/60-120!!!! whoa.

Thanks for the warning about the soda. I won't try it. I was a Diet Coke addict, but I have successfully broken the addiction by drinking Fuze when I feel the need for something sweet.

My instructions are no drinking 1 hour before - the 30 minutes during the meal and then 1 1/2 hours after the meal! I can see what they mean because drinking does cause the food pass throught the band too quickly - YET - we need to stay hydrated too. So I've been doing 1 hour before and 1 hour afterwards. This is a little better and is still working for me. I'm staying full and I'm 4 weeks out from surgery.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
