Band rejected - infection

Recommended Posts

I only had my band for 8 mos and it just had to be removed due to rejection/infection. Going into the OR we were not sure what exactly was going on, we were hoping that it had just slipped and needed to be repositioned. Unfortunately, it had to be removed as it was being rejected and causing infection. I really didn't have much choice and I'm thankful that we caught it before anything worse happened but it seemed to all happen so fast and I can' seem to get a hold of my emotions over this. During the 8 mos of having the band, I lost 40 lbs and hav another 40 to go but this was the first weight loss success I've had in many years of trying. I never expected to be so broken up over this but I can't seem to get a grip on my emotions. I asked the doctor if it was normal to feel so incredibly sad over this. For those of you who have gone through something similar, were you so sad for a long time? I'm only a few days post op but can't seem to get a grip.

Just wanted to say how sorry I am that you have had to go through this at only 8 months out....it seems so unfair. Well done though on your weight loss. The only thing I can say is that the band was not meant for you and thank God they realised this before it caused you major problems. I nearly died a few weeks ago throwing up a lot of blood ang my blood pressure plummeting due to my band eroding so you see you have been lucky. It has given you a great start and now it is up to you to fight on with diet and exercise to lose those other 40lbs...you can do it....just imagine the band is still there!!!

Good luck...ad have a great life

So sorry to the both of you. This is one thing that stays in the back of my mind. What if. I was self pay and can't afford anything else. I can't even afford to have it taken out. But if I have the insurance if the need arises then praise God. Then if insurance would let me do a revision it would be to the sleeve. But I can only imagine what your both going through. Thoughts and prayers are with you both.

I'm glad you are doing well.

Bands do not cause infection and the human body does not reject them. There has never been a proven case of band rejection.

Poor sterile technique during band placement or fills cause infections, bands do not cause infection.

I know how you feel about losing your band. For me... I knew when I had my band removed that if I did not revise to something else I would regain so I was lucky, I was able to do the revision at the same time I had my band removed.

You might want to start researching options such as the sleeve. Alex (owner of this forum) just started a new forum and the link is in my sig.

A sleeve is like a band that actually works without all the risks and complications.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
