Can any one tell me why we are suppose to watch the carbonation intake?

I have not really given up my diet Coke an haven't had any problems.

Maybe I should ask if everything is ok if I am not having problems, LOL.

Every docs rules are different. Mine says carbonation is fine after 12 weeks post-op, but that you probably won't want it as burping can hurt as you get restricted. He also says that carbonation stretching the pouch is a myth...but who knows. I don't drink pop anyway.

I told my doctor that I didn't want to give up my 1-2 Diet Cokes a day because it's my only source of caffeine. He said it could be painful the first couple days because of the carbonation, but left it up to me. I avoided it for 3 days and actually didn't miss it as much as I thought. I think the liquid Vicodin helped me avoid caffeine headaches  There is essentially nothing wrong with diet carbonated drinks, they just want to make sure you're getting enough Water. I have no problem getting my 64 ounces since the only other thing I drink is my (now) one Diet Coke in the morning.

I've been told a few things about drinking carbination and I must say it cant be too good for you because that month I had unfill and I was able to drink pop without a prob. This week a got a fill and only took about 3 small drinks from my cup before I started PBing all over the place. So for you people that can still drink it you might not be that tight just yet. I will not be drinking any more for a long time. Its weird how just 1cc to make that much of a difference.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
