Will this Delay my Surgery!!!

Recommended Posts

I got a letter in the mail from my doctor....it was regarding the blood work I had for my upcoming surgery June 19th. This is what the letter says...

"Dear Breanne,

I am writing in reference to recent laboratory tests. Your Vitamin D was low and requires short term nutritional support with extra Vitamin D. Enclosed please find a prescription for vit D (aka ergocalciferol); follow the label directions for use.

It is important to have a repeat laboratory test on the vitamin D level 4 weeks after you start the supplement. I have enclosed a laboratory slip as a reminder to have this completed.

If you have any questions please feel free to call me."

I can't call because it's the weekend. Do you think this is the kind of thing that would postpone the surgery?? I'm not really sure how vitamin D could affect the surgery. Please tell me what you think! :blushing:

This should not delay your surgery just take the vitamin D as directed. I have the same problem ! My surgery is scheduled for JUNE 15.2009 I can't wait !

as far as i know... Vitamin D is useful in the body absorbing Calcium.< /p>

could it be that you have been on a pre-op diet and therefore your Vitamin D is low? either way, i do not see this as delaying your surgery. nothing the doctor wrote in the letter seemed to allude to that either.

i wish you the best:)

hi...

my nutritonist said I was deficient in Vit. D too - and basically said anyone in New England would be most likely low until summer. So yeah, take the supplement and you should be all set.

Thanks guys! I guess I am not like the average american these days who likes to be tan tan tan! I prefer not to go into the sun, I'm a fanatic about my skin for some reason. After I am done with the prescribed Vitamin d I will continue to take a vitamin d over the counter.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
