melliecat 55 Posted June 6, 2009 So I was banded on Friday the 5th. It went well. I am in very little pain, just sore from the incisions. No nausea except right after surgery. We had a while to wait because they were behind a little. They make you come 2 hours early to check in. Good thing my husband is entertaining, so the wait wasn't too bad. They gave me the heparin shot, which was like nothing. They gave it to me in the back of the arm. They gave me an antibiotic and had me walk into the or. Within 2 or 3 minutes, I was out from the anesthesia and back in recovery. The pain was centered in my chest and right shoulder, like at the curve of your neck. That has subsided for the most part. My surgery was at 12pm, I was home by 630pm. Percocet for pain. The tricky part is to drink 4 oz of Fluid every hour. I can't seem to make it last more than like 20 minutes. Cheers for now, and best of luck to those who are having their surgeries soon! Melliecat

melliecat 55 Posted June 8, 2009 Thanks for the well wishes! Some things I have learned so far: *sf ice pops and Jello make you have MORE gas. I cannot have them right now. Stick to the ones with sugar. *sip=good, gulp=not good *laying on my side relieves gas pain *keeping a pillow against the incisions helps while sleeping *enjoy not being hungry. It may not last *don't obsess over every little feeling or sound or change. Go with the flow and it will be much easier. Good luck!
pennreporter 12 Posted June 8, 2009 Melliecat, I was banded Monday, June 1. Still no appetite or hunger. Just at times, I know I need to get something in my system. I get the gurgling noises all the time. Learned big lesson today. I had a cup of Soup and drank it just a little too quickly. I felt like I had eaten a five course meal and had to go out for a walk. I'm actually good with a half of cup of whatever it is I'm eating. The soy in the Protein drinks was giving me gas. So switched to GNC, but really like the EAS Edge drinks.< /p> Congrats and glad to hear you're doing good. Trisha (pennreporter)
melliecat 55 Posted June 8, 2009 you know, my surgeon said Clear Liquids, does Protein Shakes count? I am starving but having very bad gas pains. I would like to have a Protein Shake but am not sure its ok.

melliecat 55 Posted June 9, 2009 here is a question...how long should I wait until I call the surgeon because of no BM? I havent gone since last wed (6 days). Any suggestions or should I just call?
Brockbabe82 0 Posted June 9, 2009 Did they give you a prescripion to regulate your bowels. I know my surgeon gave me one and had me start taking it immediatly. I think it was colax or something sound like that lol. I would call the surgeon if he hadnt of given you anything. Good luck.
StephOinAZ 0 Posted June 10, 2009 Hooray! It's so fun seeing everyone get checked off the list one by one every day :cursing: I hope everything continues to go well for you. Oh, MY surgeon said that Protein Shakes aren't clear liquids, but you should check with your surgeon so that you know for sure. Keep us posted

jtoler 0 Posted June 17, 2009 Banded today...I am sure sore and am already tired of sleeping, but that is pain free time, so will probably spend as much time as I can in dream land...I dropped 35 pounds (almost) on my own (10# thanks to the preop liquid diet...) was totally excited bout that...very bloated now, but find that I can sleep on my right side with pillow tucked under tummy...left..not so much...Here's the thing...I feel like I am starving, but can not start Protein Shakes til tomorrow...I didnt think I would be hungry or anything, or maybe (Hopefully) I am just misinterpreting ... did I mention women's cycle today too and they made me remove my undies...suck! I had to lay on a chuck like the old folks I sometimes work with at nursing home and hospital...weird...O well..I am looking forward to my new adventure...see you guys in the recovery room...
