June 4th Surgery Stories

Recommended Posts

Hi All, I thought I would start a thread for all of us who were banded yesterday on the 4th. So here goes:

My day started out with a 1hour drive to the hospital. My surgery was scheduled for 9am. I spent a lot of time with the anesthesiologist, as I'v had really bad reactions in the past. I was in recovery by I think 10am. I was admitted to a room so they could monitor my nausea. My "lunch" they wanted me to drink didn't happen, so they had to keep me until dinner, just to be sure I didn't have any issues. Which by then I was feeling pretty good. I was home by 8:15pm.

This morning I'm feeling good. I just have to keep reminding myself not to over do it.

Can't wait to hear everyones stories!!

Wow Pam, Im so glad you are having such an easy time. That makes me feel so much better. Sometimes I get really scared when I read some of the stories. Nice to know I have a chance of having an easy go at it. Of course I felt the same way about labor and that turned out to be horrific for me.....twice. lol

Hi, Well I'm at work this morning and feeling pretty good, but I do have to say that there were a few times this past weekend that weren't very good. Maybe because I overdid some things, but it is a very strange feeling to get use to. I hope everyone else that has been banded already is healing nicely!

Glad to hear you're doing good, Pam. I go back to work on Wednesday. I have all day dr's stuff going on tomorrow (surgeon, some kind of barium test, nutritionist and a 160-mile round trip). But everything going good on my end. Wednesday will start being my test, once I get back to a normal schedule.

Good luck

Trisha

Enjoy your next few days off Trisha! I don't have any follow up until next week. I see the dietician on the 15th and the surgeon on the 19th. It amazes me how everyones program is a little different.

Have a nice day!

I had my surgery on June 4th as well and it was the start of a new life for me. I am so happy that I made the decision to do it. I had to do self pay unlike a lot of people that I have read on here. DARN insurance, but it is still the best decision I will have ever made. This weekend was a little rough but I am back at work today and feeling better each day!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
