My BMI is 40.8. I do not have any co-morbidities, but was able to obtain insurance approval after submitting a 5 year diet history (tried and failed) and submitting to a psychological exam.

Mine was 45.5, one of the highest I've seen on here but a woman did tell me hers was 47. I do have co-morbidities but I also didn't go thru an insurance company so even if I didn't have them I would have had surgery. Good luck =)

High starting BMI , older, no comorbs (really!) and got approved in under 48 hours.

In case you don't find it on my ticker, my starting BMI was 67.4. And no, my surgeon never once tried to push me

to get bypass.

My starting BMI was 60 and I had zero cormorbidities. My surgeon let me know that i would have faster results with the GB,but supported me in what I wanted. I don't want fast...i just want it gone! lol

My BMI is 50, and I have no co-morbids. I still don't have an approval yet (will be sent off early this week), but I will be shouting it from the rooftops when I do. The scheduler at my surgeon's office said my ins. co. usually gets them in quickly.

My BMI is 44 and I am borderline on comorbidities too. But insurance ok'd it. They didn't require ithis, but I did have documentation of trying to lose weight - weight watchers, hypnosis, my local hospital's eating disorder program. Maybe that helped, I'm not sure, but the hospital called me on Weds. to tell me I was approved!

Thanks for all of your input I feel reasured that my insurance will hopefully approve me without necessarily having any co morbidities  Will keep my fingers crossed when all the paperwork is finally submitted.

my insurance rep said that a bmi of 40 qualifies. If you ar3 35 - 40 you need a co morbidiity.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
