AShaffer 0 Posted June 4, 2009 I was wondering if anyone here used Tricare for their surgery and if so what did you do for your weight management? I have appointements set up with my primary doctor once a month for 6 months for weigh ins, is that enough? Thanks!
gri855 0 Posted June 4, 2009 I don't know for sure, and yours may be different, but from what I've heard, Tricare doesn't require 6 month or ANY pre-op diet records.
AlaskaGirl77 0 Posted June 4, 2009 I had my surgery last week (through Tricare) and they didn't need any of that. Just my diet history (nothing official)....good luck!
spice 0 Posted June 4, 2009 I am using Tricare and I just got my approval on Monday! My surgery is scheduled for 6-19-09. 2 weeks!!! I did not have to have 6 months weigh ins. I did have to have something coexisting with my BMI of 39.9. I have sleep apnea and once that was proven, my approval came within 5 days. I started visiting the lapband Dr. in January. They did not put the request for the approval in until after I visited with a nutritionist, psychologist, and attended their seminar and support group. Then they talked to Tricare and learned that I needed the proof of sleep apnea, so they did not request authorization until after they received proof. I hope this helps! AShaffer 0 Posted June 4, 2009 Thanks guys! When I called Tricare they didn't seem to know about the 6 months weight management program but Penn State Hospital said again today it was 6 months. I'm confused! But waiting 6 months isn't a big deal I guess because I'm already 2 1/2 months into it.
Ready4a2ndChance 0 Posted June 6, 2009 It may not be tricare, but the surgeon that or even your PCM may require that before they will give you a referral for a surgeon consultation. It's different for everyone. My pcm gave me the consult immediately, then he needs me to do 2 dietician, 2 nutritional counselings, 1 support group at the hospital, then tricare requires an EKG, bloodwork, & chest xray.........
