Bariatric Advantage ?

Recommended Posts

My surgeons' office sells Bariatric Advantage products, and I was wondering if anyone had used any of their stuff and if it tastes good. I'm still pre-band, so I am looking for good sources of Protein powders and tasty shakes to drink pre and post op. Thanks in advance for any help with this.

Hi there,

I've not tried their Protein stuff, but I do use their Vitamins and Calcium products. Very good and has everything that we band patients require. Vitamins and Calcium are very good. I get the wild cherry calcium and the berry flavored vitamins. So far as Protein shakes go, I get unjury. Check them out aUNJURY Medical Quality whey Protein Isolate. Great Tasting whey Protein supplements for Everyday Health! High Protein and High Quality.I really like the flavors but you don't get a lot so I may be trying some of the nectar brands. I hear they taste pretty good.

Hope that helps.

Craig

One of the reps was at a support group I went to this past week. She didn't say much about Protein stuff, but we did sample some of their Vitamins. They were not too bad - the Calcium chew thing was outstanding!

I did want to mention that she talked about a pre-op Vitamin that they make that helps get your levels evened out and gets you used to taking a supplement. I am not sure how it tastes because we did not sample that one, but it might be worth looking into.

Good luck!

I started my Pre-Op three days ago and that's what my Doctor's office has us use. I bought the strawberry, the chocolate, the vanilla and the banana that way I could have variety. They all are good. I couldn't believe it. I rotate the flavors so that I won't get sick of one kind. I use Water to mix them but you can use skim milk also. Hope this helps.

I use BA and Unjury. I like them both. BA has Vitamins and carbs. For lunch I mix the vanilla of one or the other) with 2 cups of frozen strawberries and sweet'n low and skim milk n a blender. It taste like a milk shake to me. It with BA it comes to 320 calories and with Unjury it is 280. It does stop me from craving bad things. I have also used the chocolate of both with skim milk and sugar fee carmel Syrup and ice in a blender ( sometimes I add instant de-caff coffee graduals to it) BA is 220 and Unjury is 180.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
