On the fence but the fence it starting to wobble

Recommended Posts

I am new and just ran across this site. Is it me or are the majority of lap band surgeriers huge success stories? I am looking for something negative, but the complication rate seems very minimal and the upside is huge. I have an appointment with my regular Dr. in a couple weeks and I am going to bring up the subject of lap band but I am just trying to do my research first. Losing weight on my own has been like a roller coaster, but not in a good weigh lol.

Here's another helpful website (I only assume the stats are correct!)

Guide to Weight Loss Surgery

As you nose around here you will find some issues but remember they are a small portion of people who are banded. Many of us absolutely LOVE our bands, but it's good to get the big picture. No surgery is w/out risks. However like you I finally realized...if I keep dieting I'm going to stay fat. If I don't diet I'm going to be fatter. What else can I do? This was the answer.

it's helpful when deciding, to read all the negative points of view. If nothing else so you're prepared for the possibilities. Check out the complications forum.

On the other hand, your impression is correct. The majority are success stories and percentages bear that out. I held off for two years trying to diet and researching before I went though with it. So far, dropped over 40 pounds, off 2 med's and feel much better. some obvious changes required, but I feel it's been worth it so far...

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
