I got my surg date today. it is june 30th. I meet Dr Woodman today for the first time ( before i only meet his staff.) He seems to be really nice, He tells you, you have to diet and exercise and the surg. is not magic. But if youy have been doing the research you should already know that.... But in all I think he seemed nice.. Hopefilly thing will stay the same.

Hooray for getting your date for surgery. I had mine on May 5, 2009 and just got my first fill on June 1. Just follow what the doctor says and all will be well.

Eric Jones: I am not sure how your insurance works but mine pays 100%. Your best bet would probably call your insurance and ask them. You have to realize that some surgeons charge any where from $7000-$25,000. So just call your insurance and ask. Maybe if you find another doc he might not charge as much.

I also got my date. It is June 17th! I just found out on the 1st that my insurance approved it and scheduled my date on the 3rd. It seemed like a really quick turnaround. Probable becuae I was on the phone with the Dr.s office allthe time! LOL!!! I have my preop appt on 6/9 and asssume that is when I will start my preop liquid diet :blushing:... I am starting to get nervous, but have found the info on this site VERY helpful! I hope there is not a lot of tests to get done, cause I fear I may run out of time!

Some doctors charge what they call a "program fee" that is NOT covered by insurance. Basically, it is their way to get more money. They will probably tell you it pays for informational materials, seminars, etc. That is bull hockey. It is extra money in their pockets.

The first surgeon I had an appointment with had a $500 program fee, so I cancelled that appointment. I have heard of them charing much more, like your $3000. I would definitely NOT pay that. Look for another surgeon; that's my advice.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
