Not filling beyond 6 cc's??

Recommended Posts

Hey Luluc, I too feel that it can take more for some people to reach their sweet spot. I have a 10 cc Realize Band and I was banded on Sept. 8, 2008 and I have just reached my sweet spot at 8cc's which was about a week ago. Some people need more and some people need less, but it's your band and remember it's also your Doctor and you need to be able to talk to him and ask more questions concerning your band.

that makes NO sense.!.

my body, my band, my health - i deserve to know all specifics about what is inside me. medically speaking, your entitled to that info....i get some surgeons don't want us to get hung up on the # - but this band experience is all about the number, otherwise i wouldn't need a scale.

i also have a 10cc band, and i needed 8.5ccs to get any kind of restriction....heck i'm at 7.2ccs maintaining.

i joked to my dr that i paid for a 10cc band (self pay) and if i need 10ccs to make it work - filler up!

I just wanted to give you all an update. After 2 months of extremely slow weight(2 lbs one month,1 lb the next) loss my surgeon has agreed to give me another fill under flouroscopy!!She said she would feel comfortable giving me a larger fill with more accuracy under xray.Plus she wants to check to make sure I haven't streched my pouch. What happens if you've streched your pouch??:scared2:

With your surgeon, who knows? But usually if the pouch is stretched, docs unfill you and let things "rest" for a while, then begin refilling. In order to stretch your pouch enough to cause trouble you generally have to consistently overeat. Note I said consistently...a time or two of wild abandon won't do it.

Odds are at 6ccs your pouch isn't stretched but you just need more restriction. Bands aren't one size/one fill level fits all, and while I'm no pro, your surgeon is the first I've ever heard of with a kooky "6 cc" rule. Bands can be filled to capacity...that's the point.

Restless Monkey,Thanks for the info!! I know this time she was like I have no problem filling you over 6 cc's if necessary!! I think she thought I was'nt really trying to lose and after 2 months of almost no weightloss she was more willing to work with me!!

I hope it's not stretched I would hate to have a complete unfill and I could only imagine how much weight I would gain with that!!:scared2:

well of course our pouches are made out of our stomach and it is VERY VERY stretchy, and also rebounds back down nicely. It makes sense the pouch would stretch a little but you'd have to really overdo to stretch it out, I think. So odds are you're really great! As my granny would say, "don't borrow trouble"...don't worry about it unless it happens. :scared2:

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
