Not filling beyond 6 cc's??

Recommended Posts

Has anyone heard of this?? I have a lapband that holds 10 cc's.But was told yesterday at my surgeon's office that they dont like to fill much past 6 cc's?? I'm at 5.5 cc's and still haven't reached my sweet spot yet and I'm a little concerned.Any advice would be helpful & appreciated!!

I have never heard of this before...If they are not giving you fills as you need them i would see another Dr. and go from there....

That's not right. I have a 14cc band - I'm now up to 10cc's because I wasn't getting enough restriction. He will fill it all the way if I need it.

I think like might be the key word here. I don't like to go to work on Monday but I do. Ask point blank will they fill if you need to be filled?

I have the 10cc band and the same amount of fill as you and my doc is more than willing to go beyond that. I mean, what is the other space for if not to fill it?

I have a 10cc band and my doc told me he likes to keep ppl around 5 cc but I have almost 7cc in mine now. What they like to and what they have to do are often 2 different things...besides .5cc may end up being your sweet spot. Good luck!!!

I also have a 10 cc band. When I went in for a fill I asked how much I had in my band because my doc never tells me. The nurse said "5 cc's and you shouldn't need much more than that". Well that was 4 fills ago and I have no idea how much is in my band. I had a fill last week and when I asked my doc he said "I don't really keep track because its different for everyone". I understand that logic but honestly? How could he really not know. Wouldn't that be an important bit of information? My other thought was that maybe he chooses not to tell his patients so that they don't get stuck (not food stuck) on a certain number. I'm not sure. I thought it was strange.

that makes NO sense.!.

my body, my band, my health - i deserve to know all specifics about what is inside me. medically speaking, your entitled to that info....i get some surgeons don't want us to get hung up on the # - but this band experience is all about the number, otherwise i wouldn't need a scale.

i also have a 10cc band, and i needed 8.5ccs to get any kind of restriction....heck i'm at 7.2ccs maintaining.

i joked to my dr that i paid for a 10cc band (self pay) and if i need 10ccs to make it work - filler up!

Luluc,I like that!! We did pay for it huh?? and if we want it all we should be able to have it if necessary?? There is always going to be "text-book" and then their is the real world where the rest of us live!! lol

I think your best course would be to ask your surgeon WHY. There is some new rumbling that super tight may = more problems with the band (no evidence that I've read, just innuendo and anecdotal stuff) so maybe he's reluctant because of something like that. Ask him. Don't jump to conclusions!

To each his own...but there is no way I'd let ANYONE put ANYTHING into me without knowing what and how much. And I was that way before I went to nursing school!

Good grief. How will he know if it's leaking? Sloppy at best.

I'd find a new doctor. That's just insane.

Would you let someone give you a shot of, say, morphine and say "I don't know how much I gave you it's different".

Good lord. I know saline isn't morphine but someone needs to know about that medical device in you and the buck stops with your surgeon.

i think it's important to note that a high fill level doesn't necessarily equate being too tight.

i eat all foods (bread/pasta/rice) - PB'd twice, don't slime, no reflux - all signs that your band is too tight.

according to my surgeon - he would have preferred to have put the smaller 4cc band inside me, based on my anatomy - however he only uses the AP bands......so he warned me early on that i would likely need over 8ccs in the 10cc band to get restriction.

i just don't get the "template" band post op life instructions.

this is not one size fits all - meal plans, restriction - all of it are so individual. i'm glad my dr is flexible and open to discuss this. i was banded the same day as my husband, and outside of that similarity - we share nothing alike in life after being banded.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
