Hi Carmen,

I'm home - a day and 1/2 after surgery. The entire experience was great. Considering that I'm one of the older bandsters (almost 60) there could have been unforeseen complications. I don't even remember coming out of the anesthesia; I woke up in my room. The pain was bearable, in fact only needed something to take the edge off. I started walking as soon as I was awake enough. That REALLY does help!

I had some discomfort in the shoulder area but knew that was from the gas they pumped in. To be forewarned is to be forearmed. Knowing that this was a possibility prepared me for the worst. The staff at Elmbrook is wonderful! Mary, the dietician, is super; spent a lot of time making sure all my questions were answered.

I'm rather tired now, so guess I'll take a nap. Let me know of any questions you may have. This was a cake-walk!!! Good luck to all of you future bandsters; I hope it will go as easy for you as it did for me.

Okay, reality has set in. The pain meds must be wearing off and I'm so thirsty my tongue feels like sandpaper. Sorry if I sounded overly rosy before but I really did feel great, until about an hour ago. Having a little trouble maneuvering in and out of chairs but I'm hopeful by tomorrow it will be better. Please say it will be.

Well the hardest part is over ........ you're banded!! It will take a while for you to feel 100%. Take the pain meds - that's what they are there for and drink Water to make your tongue feel better.....after all you will have to have liquids for awhile. You will be better tomorrpw without a doubt! Every day you are getting more and more strong and healing so stay positive!!! You will be ok!! Promise!! (just please remember to tell me that after MY surgery!! :D :D :D)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
