30 lbs in 30 days and NO appetite

Recommended Posts

I had my surgery 5/1 and have lost 30 lbs in 30 days but I have NO appetite and no energy along with hot flashes, light headed and anxious. Has any one had these issues. I had my surgery in Mexico so I can't see my surgeon. My reg. doctor said she thinks I have depression and put me on meds but until it works I feel horrible. Has any one had any issues like this.

Sorry, I haven't. Have you tried MAKING yourself eat? You may be in "ketosis" and a side effect of it is no hunger. If you make yourself eat, especially something with carbs like a potato or so on, it may help pull you out of it. (although your doc may very well have checked for this)

I have lost almost 28 pounds in 26 days and feel on top of the world: My skin is clear, I feel energetic like I haven't in years, I'm happy and feel like FINALLY I have control of the monster I've wrestled with all my long life. I've achieved good weight loss in the pass, by the skin of my teeth, by hanging on, by struggling, but this has truly been effortless.

I don't know your age nor your endocrine status (ie thyroid ok? Diabetes?) I think maybe you need to try to make yourself eat for a day or two and see if that doesn't help your appetite return.

Good luck: I'm sorry that you feel so physically ill.

First cong on the weight loss, I was also banded on the May 1st. About a week or so after I went with my wife to my nutritionist, I had lost about 10 lbs. But was not feeling too well, sweating etc. She believed it was low blood sugar and had me get regular crandberry juice. Said to have 8 onz a day. You need to eat something and get some carbs in you. You dont need alot.

With that said my weight loss has slowed, down almost 20. started to keep track of food etc.

If you cannot get to a dr. I strongly suggest you see a nutritionist that works wtih lapban they can help you to know what you NEED to eat.

One thing that happens with us women is that we store estrogen in our fat, so as we lose weight we have a bizzare imbalance in hormones and that can cause both depression, hot flashes and so on. I agree you need local nutritional support so check to see if you can locate one to help you and then start eating slowly but regularly. Focus on high protien high nutrient foods and I bet in 3 days or so you will see a big improvement. Good luck and let us know how you are doing.

A lot of what has been said above I agree with. I felt truly AWFUL a few days after surgery, I had quite liberal post op diet - in that anything that could fit up a straw was a liquid. I was sort of trying to do what people on here do, juice, Jello, Water, etc. Well, those foods are rubbish! The minute I started cooking again, making decent Soups with meat, vegies and Pasta in them and blending those up, to the consistency I could handle (watered down with broth) all the faintess, passing out and lethargy passed for me and I lost weight and felt great.

That's a very good point about the hormone issues!

Also, be sure you are getting some good B12 supplements, Vitamins, and plenty of Protein supplements.< /p>

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
