Got my gallbladder removed

Recommended Posts

I got my gall bladder removed on Friday (the day before my one-year bandiversary). My Lap Band surgeon did this surgery too and was able to remove it through one tiny incision almost inside my belly button. Recovery has been a breeze. I was back to work on Monday. I had more shoulder pain than with my Lap Band surgery but the incision and internal pain has been very minimal. :frown:

I'm only 2 weeks pre-op. My Doctor put me on Urso forte. This is supposed to help with preventing gall stones/gall bladder issues. Were you on this med? Just curious if I'm taking this for nothing.

Hope you feel better soon.

I also had my gallbladder removed on April 3rd. I think maybe they should just take it out when they do the band because 9 out of 10 times you are going to have gallstones. My doctor that did my band was the one that did the same surgery. They were orginally going to have another surgeon do it, but he had never even seen the lapband before. I emailed my surgeon and told him if this doctor does my surgery and my band gets messed up I will sue. They rescheduled me with my lapband surgeon. Everything was fine after surgery except I had a small hernia from the Constipation with the band. He repaired the hernia and everything is good. :frown:

I agree, my surgeon told me up-front that 70% of his patients who have their gall bladder and have rapid weight loss with the band end up having to have it removed. But the surgeon said that insurance wouldn't pay to have a healthy organ removed. As soon as I found out mine needed to come out, I called my Lap Band doc, I didn't want someone else in there either.

Glad to hear you are doing good now.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
