chichigirl 1 Posted September 13, 2005 Ouch, looks like you had to find out the hard way, bread is pretty rough going down with most banded people, myself included. Alot depends on how much fill you have, but the only time I can handle bread is when I have no fill at all and even then, I have to be very careful. You're doing really great so far, congradulations. Just remember, whenever you try a new food, teeny, teeny bite and chew, chew, chew swallow and wait for how you will handle it. Good Luck and keep up the really good work! La_madam 20 Posted September 13, 2005 Many of us can NOT eat bread with proper restriction. Bread that is toasted well goes down easier for me at times, not all the time You are not alone...
Penni60 45 Posted September 13, 2005 One of my worst experiences was with eating bread. It was my weakness before banding. Like Michelle I can eat toasted but only in extremely small bites.
coyotegirl 3 Posted September 13, 2005 I also can NOT eat bread that has not been toasted! :sick But must take small bites and chew chew chew.
Jachut 487 Posted September 13, 2005 As long as I can eat toast occasionally I will survive, but bread is such a staple! Then again, that's not a good thing, i cant think of much that's nutritious about white bread. But still, to not eat bread! I'm not even going to think about it. Whoyah 0 Posted September 17, 2005 I too have problems with bread. I'm grateful though. Breads, have been a huge deterrence in my (pre-banding) weight loss attempts. I now use multigrain crackers (two or three, depending) when I really feel the need for bread -- old habbits hard to break. I've also found great soy crisps (high in protein) that are also satisfying. I'm so pleased with my new appetite or lack there of, I really don't feel deprived. nesstg 0 Posted September 18, 2005 Ick! I had my first PB 3 days ago and guess what it was from? bread. I had 1/2 a ham sandwich and really chewed. But no go. I couldn't even finish the half, the pain was so bad. On the other hand the PB wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. What an experience.
Parvathi 2 Posted September 20, 2005 I'm able to eat toasted bread or toasted sandwiches and such, but generally choose not to. I had one (a toasted sandwich) last week, for the first time in two months. I got through about half of it. I do have thin crust pizza on occasion and can generally get through a piece and a half (compared to the old whole medium pizza lol). Just remember - tiny bites, chew chew chew. And look out for the soft stops as opposed to waiting til it gets painful. That, for me, has been the hardest thing to learn.
HotLikeHer 0 Posted September 20, 2005 My nutritionist told me to try the whole wheat bread-if I can handle the breads, But I havent tried any breads yet, with the exception of a bite of toast, you know quality control--ha ha ha when you make the family Breakfast, then make your own darn shake for breakfast.... aaamom 0 Posted September 20, 2005 BREAD! NO WAY ! NOT EVEN TOASTED ! Jack, did you ever consider going into stand-up???????????????
mousecrazy 2 Posted September 20, 2005 I can see from all the different answers, that it is a very individual thing. I sure know that big pain in the chest feeling, and I have gotten (is that a word?) it from all kinds of things...the common denominator is eating too big of bites, and too fast. If it's not liquid, and I eat too fast, and too big of bites, it happens. I can eat bread, small bites, chewed up well...but here's the thing: before band life, I could eat half a loaf of french bread, no problem. Now, a bite or two, and that's fine. I don't feel deprived about it.
Lu Ann 0 Posted September 20, 2005 OHHHHHHH, me too. Why can't I learn. Eat slow, chew chew...the pain is terrible. And I am at work, eating lunch right now, with the horrible lump!
Danistar 0 Posted September 21, 2005 Hi Oh I really sympathize with you. I love bread too, but am allergic to wheat. I ate it anyways because I have so many allergies it left me with nothing to eat. Now I am glad that I won't be able to tolerate it. I think I feel better. Danistar
