What is this "sweet spot"....

Recommended Posts

I'm newly banded April 7th to be exact. Ive had my first fill 3cc and im about to have my second fill this week. What im curious about and have read about is "the sweet spot" and honestly I don't understand it or what it will feel like. I eat about 1/2 cup of food at each sitting and cant eat bread or the like. If I eat to fast or don't chew really little bits I will throw up. But ice cream and the like I have no problems with.. but i avoid. I've lost about 12 kilos or 22 pounds? But i don't have a loss every week. After my first fill was constantly throwing up. Do i need more fill?? Am i losing enough? I know it wont happen over night! ( took me 20 odd years to put it on!!) Any guidance would be wonderful thank you.

Ally :(

The sweet spot means just the perfect amount of restriction where there is steady weight loss. If u can only eat about a half cup of food, and you feel full for a few hours, I'd say ur pretty much there. That's excellent.

You'll never have a problem eating ice cream. Imagine putting ice cream in a warm funnel... It would never fill up.that's how ur band is with ice cream, too.

In my admittedly limited experience PBing usually happens because you are eating too much too fast. I have GREAT restriction and can eat anything...but only if I'm careful; small bites, chewed to mush and beyond.

Of course things we call "slider" foods (like ice cream, Cookies, candy, chips) go down easy. They need to be avoided if you are trying to lose weight.

You should talk to your doc about your fill level. I don't really expect it to take me 54 years to lose my excess :(

I agree, a sweet spot is simply a spot where there is steady weight loss.

you cant define it by amount you can eat or foods you can eat. If you define it by those terms, I have NEVER reached a sweet spot yet I've lost all my weight and then some (went way past the top of my healthy weight range down to a BMI of 22) and maintained the loss for nearly 2 years. But I eat more than half a cup and I eat bread.< /p>

At any level of restriction if you eat fast, dont chew, take big bites you are likely to throw up. Just as at any level of restriction you will be able to eat ice cream easily.

Thank you all for your replies. lol I don't expect it to take 20 years to lose, but I tell myself that when I think im not losing enough... Gets me by. I will see what my doctor says as to how much Fluid I have and shall need. I guess with my band I will always be "learning".

Ally.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
