I was banded in October 08 and am now gaining weight. I have lost

all hope and have since let myself go as far as control over food.< /p>

I never experienced good control after fills and never really lost

weight after surgery. Has anyone else experienced this?

Please don't suggest seeing my MD- it may sound silly

but I am too embarassed to go having gained weight.

Can anyone relate? I am so discouraged.

I lost 42 pounds preop and post op (down to 363 from 405) for the first two "liquid" weeks (back when I was banded 8/29/08) and then slowly gained back to 378.5 on 5/7 when I went and got this fill. In the 25 days since my fill I have lost 26.5 pounds and am now down to 352. This is ALL because of the band and finally realizing what it is to eat about 1/2 cup of food and stay full for 6 hours or so.

I don't know how much you've gained and I don't know how much fill you have but go back to your doc. You will NOT be the first person to gain. You're only a failure if you quit. Believe me, restriction is worth it.

If there are emotional eating issues in your history, you may want to consider seeing a therapist?

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
