I'm trying to be a OTR Truck Driver. I been wanting to be a truck driver for at least 10 years. But with to much weight and the fact that truck drivers tend to put on more weight, I held off. Well it's been a year now that I had my Lap-Band put in. I'm down 140lbs. Still got 40 pounds or so to go, but I was ready to get into trucking. I graduated May 20th. But I can't find a job. No one wants to hire newbies. My luck. Anyway. There is no dought in my mind that I can and would suceed in eating 10 times better than the average trucker. The fact that I have my own little police man in my stomach, keeping me in check. Every day I am thankfull that I had the Lap-Band put in.

ya trucking is not easy but no other option for me. like most people change is not good. i know that the weight will come off its just that little sleep and not good food choices at the 7-11's or local mom and pop stores is going to be tough.

i think i am going to try the Atkins diet it has been helping me lose weight before surgery for the doctors.

everyone seems to say eat Protein first then the other stuff. here's a questions for someone, why is everyone not doing Atkins????

i know its not really a long term diet plan for some people but seems to be working for me so far. just a question for someone....

hey good luck with finding a job i know its not easy starting trucking or finding a job when your new to trucking.

:confused::thumbup::):thumbup:

I remember before the lap-band. The doctor had me on a two weeks Atkins diet to clean out my system. I thought, this is easy. eggs, meat, etc. Easy. then more eggs & meat. Well at the end of the two weeks, I was so sick (ready to puck) and way tired of the Atkins diet. All I got to say, is. "Thank God for the Lap-Band".

Ditto what Jack said about the obsessive compulsive stuff. I've come to the conclusion that the reason I've done so well post op is that I stopped being a compulsive over-eater and instead became compulsive about measuring, weighing, and evaluating foods. I don't put anything in my mouth without weighing it, figuring out its nutritional content, and putting it on a spreadsheet. I'm nuts about monitoring my food intake. It's still a compulsion, just a better one. The reason that I could never successfully lose weight before I think is that I wasn't allowing my desire to be obsessive/compulsive about food to continue living.

I've been an owner operator for the past 4 year's. I had my lapband surgery last november and have lost 56 pound's so far. It was the best decision I've ever made. We have to keep our health in decent shape to pass our dot physical's, and this is a great tool for that.

I try to take my lunch with me as much as possible because as you know, truck stop's are not good places to try and eat healthy. I also learned the hard way to keep a small trash can handy if your gonna eat while going down the road just in case. Don't worry, you wont have any problem's after you heal a while. :thumbup:

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
