Did I make the wrong choice?

Recommended Posts

No you did not make the wrong choice!!!! You are not alone. Some of us are just slower than others. I lost a whopping 8lbs out of surgery. GAINED 4lbs BACK before my 1st fill and it's been a battle to get those 4lbs back off again - TOTAL weight loss to date - a whopping 8lbs!!!! It's not a wrong choice, hey at least I'm not gaining and I've been holding a steady loss of - hold your breath - 1-2lbs in between fills. I'm getting closer to getting good restriction though - but it is a little discouraging as I've been banded for 3 1/2 months - but at least its coming off and not going back on!!! I'll get there one day and so will you!!!!!!!!!! Look at my damn ticker - you can't even see what my starting weight was and what it is now because the numbers overlap - take a look ;) Welcome to the fight my friend!

Hi

Just a quickie.....2 days after I got out of hospital I thought I would weigh myself and sure,I was surprised....I weighed exactly what I weighed before I started my pre-op liquids for 2 weeks.....14 pounds heavier in 3 days.......I was devastated......I thought I would die.....It took me about 2 weeks to lose that weight......and then I started losing slowly.....it was mentally very hard.....

But I have now lost 52 pounds since the op and if I applied myself better and made better food choices I would definetely have lost more.....I now (since I started feeling a bit better, little reflux....) cheat a lot and make really bad choices a lot......

Just be patient.I also thought I'd made a huge mistake with this operation but now I know I will lose all my weight before my band have to be removed.....

Keep the faith,you will lose...

Sorry you are struggling with this. I know how hard it is, especially when we see folks whom the weight seems to be just falling off, when we dont' see any movement on the scales what so ever.

You have to find something else to track your successes if the scale isn't moving. I cannot stress this enough. I personally track all my NSVs and I bump the list every two weeks. In fact, my loss is so slow for the various challenges I post my weekly NSV, not how much weight I lost. I am hoping that I can win Nana~'s cloak though for her challenge.

Only you can say if this was the right decision for you or not. Even though I haven't lost much weight, my health is so much better. And my health is why I got banded. I do know that if I had opted for the RNY I don't think I would be in any better health, and my weight loss might not be any more substansive than what I've already lost. You must give this time though.

Aimze, I feel for you I lost 2 pounds in the two weeks following the surgery. Its now been 3 fills, one was a let out because I couldn't eat anything for 7 months but broth and Tomato Soup and still Im only 20 lbs down since 12/4/04. If I eat normal for a day or so I will gain 3-4 pounds. So here I am still starving myself like I always did. People told me oh you have to eat to lose weight. I tried that and gained....Ill hang in there if it kills me......Just remember some of us bandsters don't lose weight and it looks like we just have to exercise more and starve more than the others do......Keep trying your new to this...........G

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
