Introduction - MissK

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone

I am a 27 year old female from rural Australia, and I currently weigh in at my heaviest weight ever, 109kg/240lbs.

I have struggled with my weight since birth, with my first recorded appointment in relation to that taking place when I was just 6 years old.

I am scheduled to be banded on 18th August 2009; I am a little frightened but mostly excited about this opportunity and very determined to succeed.

I live alone and my family are a 12 hour drive from me, so I am excited to have joined lap band talk and am looking forward to utilising this website as a part of my support network.

Talk to you all soon, I hope!

MissK, hello! So excited for your upcoming "banding"! It's too bad your family is so far away, but there should be some people in your support group when you get banded who can help you out. Keep us posted on your progress!

Hello, MissK and welcome! I applaud you for making the decision to have surgery while you're young... I'm 47 and although banding wasn't around in the US when I was in my 20's, I wish I would have had the courage to seek help back then. My surgery date is July 20th, and I, too, am frightened but excited at the same time. I'm prepared with an eating plan for post-surgery and have my iPod loaded with new songs for my workouts on the elliptical machine. Hope to read more about your journey toward surgery... and your continued journey post-op as well. :)

PS I'm was a huge "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" fan and followed "Angel" as well, thus my moniker

Thanks TT. It is sad that they are far away, but my mum is coming to stay for two weeks when I get banded which will be great. Thanks for the warm welcome

Hi Vamp... thanks for your support. When I went to the pre-consult seminar I was absolutely blown away by the number of older people in the room, and by older I mean a good decade or more older than you. I actually burst into tears when I left because that right there was my 'moment of truth' -- sitting in that room knowing in my heart that I didn't want to still be this way when I am their age, still battling, still big, still unhappy with physical self -- and at that point I said "no going back kiddo, just do it".

We would have almost been 'banded together', as my op date was originally 16th July but I pushed it back a month to enable my mum to be here when I get it done.

Looking forward to sharing this journey with you, you are very brave. :)

MissK,

I have found this site to be very helpful, and I've only been a member since last week!

I took several months to decide to have surgery, and being 24, when I went to a seminar and then to a support group, felt like the youngest person in the room. It made me nervous, "was I making the right decision?"

But I've really thought about it and researched it, and realize that (hopefully) this will allow me to finally get a long term handle on my weight, for the rest of my life.

I commend you for deciding to have the surgery! And hope that you find the support you are looking for on this site!

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
