Pre-op diet...what else can you eat?

Recommended Posts

Ok, so I recently began the pre-op diet and surprisingly I am doing fine. However, I am getting tired of eating and drinking the same thing. Does anywone have any info on what else they ate/ drank while on pre-op liquid diet. So far I have been doing the protien shakes, Jello, yogurt, cottage cheese, broth Soup. I feel that I need to change it up though, so I don't get tired of the same thing. Please help with any advice.

I need some advice on what can be done to jazz up the liquid phase. I am 4 days in and I am so tired of chicken broth. How did you all manage to last 14 days?

I am only on day 4 too. I am trying to figure out other things of substance to eat as well. I actually think I am eating way below the calorie count I should be eating. The diet is so strict but everything they want you to eat is like 100 calories or less. By the way side note, I love your quote. If you find a way to "jazz it up" please let me know. Have you tried cottage cheese?

My pre-op diet was all Clear liquids. broth, popsicles (sugar free, of course), Water, Crystal Lite, diet soda, coffee or tea. That's it.

So having other stuff too is actually a more lenient pre-op than some of us got.

I had my band installed yesterday so I have another week of Clear Liquids. Then a week of full liquids. THEN I get yogurt and stuff like that. But I can have creamy Soups on full liquids.

Wow... you guys are lucky. My pre-op diet consists of Protein Shakes three times per day for 14 days. No Soups, jellos, popsicles, etc. It's going to be terribly hard when I get there!

Trust me, I would have killed for a Protein Shake. At least that is feeding your cells. My pre-op was basically ZEOR calories - no fuel. Protein Shakes can help feed your cells, supply energy to your brain. I think it's a better approach, honestly.

I didn't realise you couldn't have Protein Shakes as well. How long was that for? That seems like insane torture to have zero calories, and it sounds dangerous too :)

I work on a mine site and I'm certain my company would consider me a risk/unfit for work and would ban me from site for that period if that was a requirement.

I think I am going to be so sick of protein shakes after drinking 42 of them pre-op! lol

Miss K, are you on the Optifast shakes? If so you can have 2 cups of vegetables a day - Not starchy ones like potato/pumpkin/sweet potato etc but things like broccoli, cauliflower, zucchini, carrots, squash. I did that and it was way better - Also yes we can't have Soup but trying mixing a teaspoon of chicken stock in with some hot Water and sipping that, it's also allowed because it's low fat. I had to do the Optifast stage a total of 3 times because my surgery kept getting postponed so it was easier the 3rd time around - Hopefully that won't happen to you though.

Hi Sarah

Yes, I have to do the intense stage of the Optifast diet for 14 days... super excited that I can have vegies! Thanks for letting me know, as I haven't had my session with the dietician yet. It will be hard as it will be the dead of winter and I know all I will want are some warm, delicious wintery foods. But it's okay, I can do this :)

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
