This is the first day of the rest of my life...

Recommended Posts

...is what I told the psychiatrist the other day when I had my consult. I had been thinking about the band for a couple of years and finally decided I was ready. I did a happy dance (literally) in the insurance coordinator's office when I found out Aetna covered the procedure. I was completely prepared to tap out my Pension and 401K to pay for it. Imagine my excitement when I found out I'll only pay about 1K!

I am a female, age 35, height 5'3 and weight 254lbs. My BMI is 45. For the first time in my life, I was thankful for my weight...no problem qualifying for the procedure!

I've had a weight problem all my life. Most of my family is overweight. I think I went on my first (self-imposed) diet in 3rd grade...I hated the fact that my thighs rubbed together when I walked. I have been unsuccessful in controlling my weight since then, with the exception of one short-lived stint in Weight Watchers. I am cautiously excited about having the band surgery. I am thankful to have found this site and some of the great blogs out there, they give me hope that this will be the solution that will finally work for me. It had better...it's my last chance at thinness!

Well, it's like I always say, "I dieted myself into obesity."

It's a vicious cycle and once it's started, it's difficult to thwart the effects of yo-yo dieting.

I don't even have a date yet for my band, but I'm so excited to hear that yours has been approved and that you are on your way!

Good for you! I felt like I was given a second chance at life when I got my band. I now live my life as a thin person even though I still have a long way to go. I have become extremely active. I go to the gym 3 times/week. I ride bikes with my active husband and have tons of energy since I'm no longer eating crap. My husband loves the new me. I am confident that I will reach my goal with my new band. I hope you will feel as good as I do.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
