Mayo Banditos / Friday Weigh In !!!!

Recommended Posts

Weighed in this AM @ 234 lbs. Down 2 lbs since last week. Went to the Doc last night, did not tighten the band as I still have restirction. He didn't want to mess with it...If it's not broke, don't fix it.

My goal of 223 lbs is in sight.:w00t: When I hit goal, the Doc will open the band just a little so not to lose anymore....THAT MAKES ME NERVOUS.......I am afraid that I will start to gain back the weight. Will have to watch it closely.......

Awesome job John! You are such an inspiration!

Last Friday- 237.5

today- 237.5

No loss. i'm so bummed. This hasn't happened since surgery. I've lost one pound in two weeks. I have an appt with surgeon next monday for another fill. But also, I started new birth control pills and that's when this all started. So upset right now.

Down 1.6 this week to 178.6. A little at a time. I can't wait until my second fill on Mon. I hope they do 3cc's like last time. That would make me two thirds full. I am eating too much, too fast again. I have to keep a handle on that.

John, what is opening the band? An unfill? That would make me nervous too.

Congrats. to everyone this week. Hope next week is great!

I actually gained 2 lbs this week and I'm not upset about it at all. I was told when I was unfilled that I would probably gain something or stay the same since I was technically in starvation mode (for all that don't know- I was a few days away from being hospitalized for dehydration and malnutrition) and not getting the proper nutritiants because of how tight my band was. So I'm embracing the 2 lbs, because I know now, That I will lose them and more, and It's just my bodies way of saying thank you (for the moment)

rguay - I will probably get an unfill at my next appt. We'll see. I've been training myself to eat less and the idea of an unfill makes me nervous. You are doing great.....keep up the good work.

Carrie - Thanks for your praise. Losing one pound is still losing one pound. Keep it up......

Sarahbellzz14-4 - Well put.....Well put... Your body is saying thanks you and you are right, your reward will be losing at least two lbs this week.

In the last week couple of weeks I had gained 3 pounds because of getting off of 1 of my blood pressure meds (a diuretic) and 1/2 of the other one. Well, finally I took those 3 back off plus 1 more pound. Yahoo! (when I started taking bp meds several years ago I lost 8 pounds in 1 week), so I am just pleased that I had only gained 3 from stopping them. I had expected that, but I'm past the hump now. GB

Weighed in this morning @ 232 lbs. Down 2 more lbs. Total 105 lbs. Can't believe that the last fill on 8/25/09 is still giving me good restriction.

My goal is 223, my Doc wants me to try and get to 220. We'll see. Watching muscle mass as I'm starting to lose some and I really don't want to. All in all, a great experience. :scared2:

John you are simply amazing! Good job! I'm sure you'll have no problem getting to 220!

As for me:

Last Friday 237.5

Today 234.5

Finally after a couple of weeks, I'm seeing some progress! I finally hit 60 pounds! I'm excited!

Congratulations, John and Carrie! Woohoo! :scared2:

I didn't weigh in last week (traveling) so in the last two weeks, I lost 3.5 lbs, for a total of 69.5. :)

John, try not to worry too much about those extra 3 lbs. the doc wants you to lose. Think of it as a good buffer. ;-)

Sometimes reading the posts here make me wonder if some people just weren't mentally ready for WLS and needed more time with the bariatric team psychiatrist. Complaining about the limited drink/food choices early on... blah..blah...blah. The living to eat mentality really needs to go and be replaced with eating to live. JS

We have to remember that everyone moves at their own pace. For some it may be harder to adjust, people may have other factors at play that feed into the unhealthy relationship with food e.g. eating disorders, trauma. I'd hope those who you are referring to address this outside of this forum, with a professional.

This is a place to feel safe to vent, seek advice, hopefully without judgement.

Compassion goes a long way :)

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
