banded May 29 pain in back and port

Recommended Posts

It will get better. Remember you just had surgery there.

You're going to feel real funky for awhile. I found my tastebuds were all out of whack. Go easy on yourself. Back off the hard foods and switch it up to warm hearty Soups for a day or two and see if that helps. When in doubt, call the doctor..always.

Good luck.

You were just banded yesterday!!! Of course it will get better. (I was banded yesterday too.)

I was told that the pain in the back or shoulders or whatever is from the gas. They use gas to bloat you up during the surgery and then some of it gets trapped. My people told me to lie on the side or part that hurts because to actually put that under you will force it to move. The goal is for it to be re-absorbed.

Sore throat - I have it too. They intubated me during the surgery and even though the tube was removed before I woke up, the soreness it left behind is still there. I have been switching between warm/hot broths and cold sugar-free popsicles. Also, you can suck on sugar-free candies if that would help.

Good luck!

I was just banded on the ndof this month and can totally relate to how you feel. It hurt me to lay on my left side in the beginning too, but it's getting a bit better. Have you tried a heating pad? That's helped my left shoulder, which has also hurt since the surgery. I called the office because I was having shortness of breath and the nurse told me to move my arms above my head as if I was doing jumping jacks (from a sitting position), and that helped too. But I feel your pain! I'm STARVING...simply STARVING, and that's been hard to deal with. I can't wait til my first fill!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
