okay so first off let me just say, i've had two major hip surgeries. both took about a month to recover from, plus i delivered my son vaginally (cant spell) so I AM NO STRANGER TO PAIN!!!

............................i just cant stand needles:bored:.im 22 years old and i still cry at the thought of them.lol

im not changing my mind about this,I AM GETTING THE LAP BAND, i just want to know how bad do they hurt? i just watched a you tube video and almost threw up.lol.

any stories or tips would be appreciated. i also know that some docs numb first. but i think that might even be worse! i mean 2 NEEDLES. are you kidding me?!?!?

I had my first fill a little over a week ago. I got a little green and clammy when they were first looking for my port; I was only 6 weeks post-op so I'm still a little swollen (and, let's face it, fat) over my port. However, the needle itself was not particularly painful, no worse than having blood drawn, and it was over quickly. On the good-reasons-to-stress-o-meter, it's maybe a 3.

Many will numb before the fill. That's still a needle and it stings a little. Frankly, doing it without numbing isn't a big deal. It's still just one needle and it's a poke but not the stinging.

Coming from a needle phobe you do not feel anything during the fills. Ask the doctor to numb you prior to sticking the fill needle in because that needle is vey large. I've had 4 fills so far and I still get squeamish looking at the fill needle.

I haven't had a band fill yet, but for needles in general, my strategy is just not to look. I look at the wall in the other direction, etc. When you can't see it, it's better. (For me anyway...)

I had my first fill two days ago. 6 weeks post op and I was still swollen.

But it did not hurt. I was numbed first. Seriously no problem. Just a weird sensation when they hit the port and I felt the Fluid go in the band wich was seriously weird.........I felt the band tight all afternoon and that night which was uncomfortable but not painful.

I do have a nasty bruise above my port but it doesn't hurt.

No big deal!!!

I'm not banded yet, but I can't imagine the fills being any more difficult than the one-shot-a-day I have to give myself in the abdomen for my diabetes.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
