I'm new here....

Recommended Posts

Hi everybody!

I am new here. I have been lurking for a little while and I have to say you all are a really good group of people. As I have been doing research on the lap band, I have come accross other forums, and I must say this one definately has the nicest, most supportive people. I am scheduled to have surgery on Sep. 22. Today I started on all Clear Liquids until the day of surgery. I am really wondering how I will handle this. I'm excited but scared at the same time. I guess I will take this hour by hour. The time I worry about most is at night. I have always taken in the bulk of my calories at night. The carbs have helped me go to sleep. I don't know if I can go to sleep hungry.

Well, I will look forward to getting to know all of you and I pray that each and everyone of you is getting along ok and will be successful in you weight loss efforts.

God Bless!

Cindy

Hi Welcome to LBT :)

Congratulation on your upcoming surgery.

10 days of clear liquids seem abnormal, most pre- op diets have some kind of Protein drinks. Are you sure he said "clear liquids"?

Well, here to a happier & healthier new you !

Welcome and you are not alone! My surgery is 9/23 and I having to deal with the pre-op diet. I have two to three Protein Drinks as well as 2 sensible meals(low fat, low carb, low calorie). I too am struggling with issues at night. I do just fine during the day, but nighttime is the worst for me! Good luck on your surgery...keep us posted!!!

Hi & welcome! My doc made me do the sugar free clear liquids before my surgery too. It was not the easiest thing I have ever done, but I made it, & you will too! I had to do it for 2 weeks though. Congrats on your surgery date! Keep us posted!

Yes, my doctor has me on clear fluids for 10 days. I have seen where others have been able to have Protein drinks and some have food, so I am not sure why he is so strict. Although, I have noticed that post-surgery I can go right into full liquids, including cream of wheat, pudding, and yougurt. So I don't think that will be as bad as some have it post surgery. I guess every doctor has his or her own ways!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
