"sensitive" stomach?

Recommended Posts

For the past several years now, I've had what I call a sensitive stomach--if something doesn't set quite right and if it makes me feel sick, up it comes. I'm not "scarf and barf"-ing. It's just that sometimes when I get anxious or nervous or I'm in a big hurry (like right before running off to work), I'll feel yucky and I throw up. It's quick, painless, and I always feel better right away. Also, certain foods seem to calm my stomach while others agitate it and just don't seem to agree with me (for example, every protien drink with whey in it has had to come back up). Since lapband changes the configuration of the stomach, I've been worrying lately about my prognosis for success. I thought I'd ask on this board if anyone who's been having problems/complications also had what they'd call a sensitive stomach? I guess I'm hoping that there isn't a connection but if there is I want to know now rather than later. Thanks for your reply.

To be honest, this would worry me. But you'd need a medical opinion on that, me saying it would worry me doesnt make it a problem.

I was the oppostive. I have a cast Iron gut. Everyone around me can be dying of food poisoning and I will come through completely unscathed. I never vomit, I rarely get stomach bugs and when I have, half the time whilst everyone else is barfing up a lung, I'll only have diaorhhea.

I kind of instinctively knew banding would be good for me (mind you, I could have been completely wrong!). And it has. I dont have half the trouble others seem to, I'm not a sweller, not sensitive to fills etc.

an experienced surgeon might be able to tell you how other patients have fared.

Willowcat - are you on any PPI's like Protonix, Prevacid or Nexium? Have you tried ginger root capsules? I've read that they can calm a queasy or upset stomach. But the bottom line is to seek medical help - maybe with a gastro doctor who has experience with banded patients. Good luck.

Thank you Jachut and Cleo's Mom--I will make sure that I talk to me surgeon about my concerns over my sensitive stomach, and if he's not concerned, then I won't be either. Thank you for your replies.

You know, the band behaves different for some people in the morning than in the afternoon. For me just after a fill I have to have something hot very very slowly with very very small sips or it wants to come back up. Then I drink Water next, 1/4 to 1/2 a bottle in case I have an issue and then my shake. The first few days after a fill I have to do this and it can take 3 hours to finish all 3 things. I am also full from it until about noon.

You really need to talk to your doc because I would worry too. You also cannot eat rushed or it could come back up.

I wish you luck in this journey and I hope that you find the wls that is best for you.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
