another incision question

Recommended Posts

I was banded May 18th. The little sattelite incisions are pretty much fully healed now. My largest incision seems to be coming along pretty good too, with the exception of a little spot in the middle that oozes just a bit. It's not dripping or anything major, just a small ooze, no odor, pain or redness. Is this normal, or should I get it checked out?

Hi, when I was banded on April 15th a week later I had some drainage out of the largest incision, but I kept running fluids out, it wasn't hurting or smelling or anything, but I did call the dr and they advised me to come in the next day... if you don't feel comfortable I would just call the dr and see what they have to say. I went in he cleanded it up and expalined that sometimes you have drainage out of the incision because it doens't have anywhere elese to go, something of that sort, can't remember everything, but he said just to be on the safe side he gave me some antiobotics for 7 days to make sure I don't get an infection and all was well. Incision is healing up very well and looks pretty good to be done had surgery. So just call the dr's office if you want to be on the safe side, I'm sure everythign is fine with it.

I agree you're probably ok but call your doc and check with him. It isn't uncommon; but that doesn't mean it isn't something that needs treatment.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
